BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SAINT JOHN - Serving Saint John, Kings & Charlotte Counties

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John has been making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in our community by developing and implementing a wide range of volunteer based mentoring programs since 1972. Each time we pair a child with a volunteer we start something incredible - a life-changing relationship built on trust, friendship and empowerment. Our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and the community. Imagine the possibilities if every child had the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.

BIG BROTHERS OF GREATER VANCOUVER FOUNDATION

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver is a registered charity and community-based organization that has been operating in the Lower Mainland since 1957. We offer friendship-based mentoring programs for at-risk boys and girls. Traditionally, we have matched boys who have limited to no contact with their fathers with carefully screened and trained adult male volunteers. Times have changed, as have our volunteers and the needs of our community. In response, we have developed a menu of programs to suit the diversity of our communities and the busy schedules of our volunteers. We have also expanded our service area to include communities from across the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky Corridor and the Sunshine Coast. We currently serve the following areas: Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, Delta, New Westminster, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey, White Rock, Tsawwassen, Squamish, Whistler and the Sunshine Coast.

Big Green

Big Green was founded in 2011 by Kimbal Musk and Hugo Matheson. Kimbal and Hugo co-founded The Kitchen Restaurant Group together in 2004 and were supporting local school garden initiatives through their restaurants. They were inspired by the way school gardens can help kids increase their preference for nutritious foods, develop healthier responses to stress, and improve their academic performance. They wanted to find a way to achieve that same kind of local impact at scale, so that children all over the country could reap the benefits of a thriving school garden. Kimbal and Hugo founded Big Green, formerly The Kitchen Community, in order to create a replicable, scalable school garden solution. They built the first-ever Learning Garden in Denver, Colorado at Schmitt Elementary, where it still thrives today.

Big Cat Rescue

Big Cat Rescue, one of the world’s largest accredited sanctuaries for exotic cats, is a leading advocate in ending the abuse of captive big cats and saving wild cats from extinction. Care of our cats. The narrow mission of Big Cat Rescue is to provide the best permanent home we can for the abused, abandoned and retired cats in our care. We do this by building enclosures in a very natural habitat with foliage and shelter on our 67 acre site, by providing the best nutritional and medical care possible, and by having active operant conditioning and enrichment programs to provide for their physical and psychological well being. Education. The broader mission of the sanctuary is to reduce the number of cats that suffer the fate of abandonment and/or abuse and to encourage preservation of habitat and wildlife. We urge people to behave in a way that will support these goals by teaching people about the plight of the cats, both in the wild and in captivity. We accomplish this through educational guided tours, educational programs for young people, and by maintaining a website that is the world's largest and best resource for information about exotic cats.
