ICFJ trains, mentors and supports journalists worldwide so they can produce trustworthy, in‑depth reporting that strengthens democracies and informed societies; it runs training programs, fellowships and innovation initiatives to build skills, safety and sustainability in newsrooms.

Helping people survive and recover from forced displacement.

To celebrate and preserve living folk art traditions and create economic opportunities for and with folk artists worldwide.    

To provide music to those who are in rehabilitation, ill, hospitalized or otherwise incapacitated and give the gift of music.

To facilitate innovation and creativity in education. We work directly with K-12 and university faculty and students to develop materials and produce programs. Our current initiative entitled: "Like Bamboo: Stories of LGBT asylum seekers" will be an educational resource for interested parties of all ages.

The Institute helps immigrants and refugees (New Americans) in Minnesota gain stability and self‑sufficiency by offering refugee resettlement, immigration and citizenship assistance, free English and job‑training programs, and workforce/leadership development.
