At the foundation of our work are youth-led dinners where students gather around food and build community with peers. Breaking bread together builds lasting connections that become a foundation for long-term organizing. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” over 45 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to 250 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area.
The mission of Project Angel Food is to nourish the body and spirit of men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our goal is to make sure no one in our community suffers the ravages of hunger and malnutrition while struggling with serious illnesses. Without our daily meal deliveries, clients risk malnutrition and deteriorating health since they are unable to provide their own meals. Project Angel Food acts with urgency as hunger and illness do not wait.
The mission of God's Love We Deliver is to improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-altering illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition. We prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of their illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves. We also provide illness-specific nutrition education and counseling to our clients and families, care providers and other service organizations. All of our services are provided free of charge without regard to income.

Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB) is a nonprofit charity started in 1982 to address the urgent problem of hunger in the community. The food bank’s mission is to meet the short-term nutritional needs of hungry, food insecure people and lead the community in the fight to end hunger.Because people often have to make difficult choices between feeding themselves and their families, and paying for other necessities, no-cost food assistance can lift a big weight from their shoulders. Thanks to Second Harvest, clients can utilize income to pay for other expenses, such as medicines, school expenses for children, rent and utilities. This helps them to save money, increase assets and strengthen resiliency.
At the present time we supply food directly to over 10,000 families per month through our three distribution centers and we reach over 25,000 families each month through our afiliate agencies that we give assistance to.
