The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization #20-1702191 is dedicated to honoring the life of our inspiration, Jimmy Miller, by supporting the healing of mental and physical illness through surfing and ocean related activities. Through recreational, education, and mentoring programs, the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation enables surfers, educators, therapists, lifeguards and friends to help people affected by mental and physical illness feel the joy and healing power of the ocean and surfing. JMMF pioneered the formation of an adaptive surfing program titled Ocean Therapy, where surfing is used as a means to increase self-esteem and self-efficacy in individuals suffering from mental and/or physical illness. The Ocean Therapy program is currently working with at risk children in the Los Angeles foster care community, veterans from all branches of the military and injured Marines in the Wounded Warrior Battalion in Camp Pendleton. We are looking to expand our programming to the addiction/recovery populations, victims and survivors of mass public and terrorist attacks, those suffering from suicidal ideation and anxiety, depression and other mental health illnesses.
Suncokret - Community Development Center is a non-governmental and non-profit organization founded in 2004 in Vrginmost. The organization operates in Sisak-Moslavina County with the aim of alleviating the negative psychological, social and cultural consequences of the war and social problems in the region. Suncokret's work is focused on improving the quality of life of all community members, with a special emphasis on children and youth, community reconstruction and support for the development of a sustainable, democratic civil society. Our activities are based on working with individuals, families, groups and communities, encouraging active participation and training. We support positive initiatives, encourage mutual cooperation and respect for differences. The organization is committed to building democratic values, civic initiative and participation, community development, volunteerism and altruism, equal sharing of responsibilities and equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, religion or nationality. In recent years, Suncokret has expanded its activities aimed at children, youth and the elderly to the earthquake-affected municipality of Topusko and the city of Glina. Over the years, Suncokret has continuously represented a stable pillar of social support for children and youth in the community, despite fluctuations in relations with local institutions. Today, institutions rely on Suncokret's provision of support to children and youth, as well as creating employment opportunities and support for the elderly in the community. Through its regular activities, with the support of younger team members from the community who grew up in Suncokret, the center's key target groups have services they can rely on: children (support in learning), the elderly (visits to the nursing home in Glina, repairs and assistance to elderly households in the villages) and the working-age population (employment through public works). During twenty years of operation, Suncokret has provided support and empowerment to several generations of children and youth from Vrginmost (over 1000 of them), as well as adults and elderly in difficult socio-economic situations. In its work, Suncokret relies to a large extent on the support of international volunteers who represent the significant human resources available to the center. To the extent possible, the Sunflower team has always tried to positively influence the development of the community through its activities and work - international volunteers have enabled generations of children and young people to get to know other cultures and accept multiculturalism, improve their language, communication and other skills; while the local team provides and coordinates community service activities. At Suncokret, volunteering means sharing and learning: volunteers learn about organic gardening, permaculture and sustainability, and in turn empower Suncokret by sharing their skills with children and youth and supporting the local community through physical work. Volunteer support made it possible to arrange access to a source of drinking water, clean up the environment, help elderly and infirm people with landscaping, work in the garden and vegetable garden, and preparation for winter. Sunsokret annually hosts over 150 volunteers and records more than 10,000 volunteer hours in the community. Vision Strong, supportive and sustainable communities in Sisak-Moslavina County and beyond where young people have opportunities and all residents exercise their rights - communities ready for the future. Mission Suncokret creates inclusive, connected, sustainable and resilient communities by bringing together different generations, empowering them, building relationships of trust and solidarity between them and engaging in various intercultural interactions and activities tailored to the needs of the community. Suncokret mobilizes and organizes international volunteers who contribute to social inclusion, interculturalism and intergenerational cooperation with their engagement. Values Integrity - Suncokret works transparently, demonstrating responsibility and being accountable to the community and partners, thereby building trust and long-term support. Inclusivity - Suncokret is committed to creating communities in which all community members, regardless of their age, gender, socioeconomic status, nationality, religion or any other differences, are equally included and have equal opportunities to participate in activities and make decisions. Suncokret undertakes community development work and aims to address negative psychological, social and cultural consequences of the social upheavals and post disaster response in the region, to improve the quality of life for all, but especially for deprived socially excluded members of the society, to promote community rebuilding, and support development of a sustainable democratic civil society. Reintegration and the improvement of life is essential in this area that suffered war and displacement and now again after the earthquakes needed help. Some lost their homes in the war and again in the earthquakes in 2020. Our activities assist in the reintegration of the community and ultimately contribute community building and development of inter-ethnic/national understanding, tolerance and reconciliation. Through our current activities the Community Center is a catalyst for civic and social change. Our organization promotes community development in a rural community. Tiempo de Juego is a non-profit entity that seeks to foster the adequate use of free time among children and youth in the most vulnerable areas of Colombia. The foundation seeks to distance children from the social ills that surround them and educate them through strategies such as sports and cultural activities. Tiempo de Juego's mission is to spawn social cohesion and development through sports, cultural, recreational, and formative tools whose purpose is the generation of competencies, promotion of values, and the effective use of free time in a responsible and conscientious manner, generating a positive and replicable impact towards a better quality of life for the community and its surroundings. Tiempo de Juego was established in 2006, as a project for the "Communication for Development" program through the "Universidad de la Sabana". After an exhaustive study for more than three years in Cazuca, one of the most marginalized, deprived and violent areas of our country, it was detected that the lack of education and excess of time of the youth, and the fact about 70 percent of the population is classified displaced, was making them more vulnerable to joining different gangs, drug addiction, incurring early pregnancies, as well as being part of the armed outlaw groups that recruit them for very little money. Using soccer as a recreational tool for value formation, accompanied by art workshops, cultural and educational courses, we gathered 400 children between 5 and 18, and the foundation began to inculcate the proper use of leisure time as a positive and useful way to encourage the kids into a brighter and more positive future. Ever since Tiempo de Juego began to operate, the children and young people have changed as has the neighborhood environment. When they celebrate goals or they read a book, this does not seem the most depressing sector of Cundinamarca area, which according to official statistics, over the past 5 years, has had more than 850 murders of young people; this is the area with the highest rate of displacement population second to Choco. A zone where poverty and malnutrition, joining the gangs to participate in the conflict is just a daily experience, where those who are growing only aspire to be part of an armed group that inhabit the area. Tiempo de Juego uses soccer as its main intervention tool to address social problems due to its capacity to convene people and its pedagogical possibilities. The foundation belongs to the football street world network, associated to the FIFA, and applies the FIFA approved rules of street football as the mechanism for the formation of values, formal education as a basis of democracy and the cultural workshops looking to build a fairer society. Also, we work out the values with the parents to achieve a proper family environment. Since 2008, Tiempo de Juego has opened another chapter in Cartagena, Atlantic Cost City, making possible those children and youth of "Las Faldas de la Popa" also to receive these benefits and rights.
WISDOM FOR CHANGE We believe in the possibility of being in the world more wisely, for the benefit of all sentient beings and the entire ecosystem. Wisdom, which allows us to recognize the interconnectedness of all phenomena, is the tool by which we can build a more equitable and compassionate society. Our name tells our mission. Wise in English means "wise," dana in Indian pali language means "to give." Wisedana therefore means "to give wisely". While remaining a secular organization, our values and activities are within the Buddhist philosophical perimeter. We encourage the practice of mindful generosity, which according to various Buddhist schools is the first of the virtues to be cultivated in order to overcome ignorance, understood as the main culprit of suffering in the world. Generosity is thus a tool that has an extraordinary transformative power, capable of building effective responses to the most important social problems. Wisedana is an international philanthropic foundation that draws on the values of the Buddhist tradition while expressing itself in a secular form. It caters to philanthropists who wish to be active in building a more equitable, wise and compassionate world by promoting systemic changes in humanitarian, ecological, social, educational, cultural, and fragility care. As Wisedana Foundation, we intend to be the catalysts for systemic change inspired by the values of the Buddhist tradition, leading to the elimination of suffering and major critical issues in the world today. Our role is to identify the actors, synergies, resources and strategies to achieve this and to connect them with the right philanthropists, men and women of our time who wish to nurture the seeds of wise change. We therefore intend to act both as a "quality advisor" capable of recognizing and supporting systemic change in all its activities, and as a "philanthropic actor" in synergy internationally with key stakeholders interested in supporting systemic change toward a wiser world. By "systemic change" we mean a strategy for responding to problems that starts by conceiving of each critical issue as a complex system, which must therefore be addressed through a multilateral and multidisciplinary analysis. The result of this composite analysis is a strategy of approaching the problem from multiple perspectives, taking into consideration all the actors involved and questioning the sustainability of the proposed solution. The value framework of Buddhism allows for a full understanding of the complexity of reality: every being is naturally connected to all others in a relationship of infinite reciprocity, and every arrangement of the world is only temporary and constantly changing. In accepting this condition-now increasingly evident in globalized society-we understand that the only way to effectively intervene in the world is precisely through systemic change. The tool we use is generosity (or philanthropy, which is its organized form) as an experience of relationship toward the other, as a powerful gesture of transformation capable of activating the vocation of individuals to participate in the common good and social change.
Girls in the Game empowers girls to find their voice, discover their strength, and build confidence through fun and active sports, health, and leadership programs. Since its founding in 1995, the organization has served more than 65,000 girls, primarily from under-resourced communities in Chicago. With a focus on the whole girl—addressing her physical, emotional, and mental well-being—Girls in the Game offers age-appropriate, evidence-based programming for girls ages 7 to 18. These programs are designed to keep girls engaged from childhood through adolescence, equipping them with lifelong skills to lead healthy, confident, and successful lives. Our programs include After School Programs, Teen Programs, one-day events, and a Summer Camp. What began as a small effort to ensure girls had access to sports has grown into a comprehensive organization that listens to what girls need—whether it’s leadership development, health education, or physical activity—and meets them where they are. With access to sports in public schools constantly being cut, these girls may not have any other way to learn some of these lessons that only playing sports can teach: things like teamwork, how to lose gracefully and how to lead a team. Today, Girls in the Game serves a diverse population, offering free, site-based programming and transportation support to break down barriers to participation. By creating inclusive, girl-centered spaces, Girls in the Game helps girls speak up, stand out, and inspire future generations. When you donate to Girls in the Game, you help girls across Chicago become strong leaders in their communities.
Champions Community Sport and Health CIC was established in September 2020, by our Director Craig Gilmore. Having delivered sport in the South Leeds community for over 18 years, Craig identified that a large proportion of children/young adults in South Leeds whose families were struggling financially, didn't have the funds to join the more traditional sports clubs/organised activities in the area, and consequently were becoming increasingly inactive, hungry, socially isolated and in some cases, involved in local gangs and anti-social behaviour. In response to this problem, we started to provide FREE turn up and play football sessions for children/young adults in the South Leeds area. Sessions are every Saturday 10.30am - 11.30am on Hunslet Moor in Beeston, Leeds. We also include breakfast and lunch as most arrive hungry and don't go home. Our aim is to make sport available to young people, who live in what is one of the most deprived areas of Leeds, irrespective of their age, ability and background. Our first session was attended by 18 children/young people and our most recent by 102, with 410 names on our database. This has been achieved through word of mouth, and because Craig (our Director) has the trust of the children/young people and their families living in the area, having taught many of them from the age of 4 years old. Approximately 98% of those attending are of a Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) background, which reflects the diversity of the local population. We also run camps in the school holidays Easter, Summer and Christmas. This is to address the free school meal gap, ensuring each child doesn't go hungry during these weeks.
At its very simplest, baseball/softball is a game that is played by boys and girls in backyards, parks, playgrounds, and sandlots. It is a time to be outdoors and spend with friends – old and new, an opportunity to be part of a team, and experience the highs of winning and the agony of defeat. This is what childhood is about – to play, be carefree, and just have a chance to a kid. In addition to its pure play element, the is also a powerful vehicle for youth development teaching important life lessons like teamwork, respect, keeping a commitment, and the art of winning and losing. It also helps build self-confidence, offers a constructive alternative for the key after-school hours, and gives kids positive role models in their coaches. It is a game that brings communities together - unifying people from different backgrounds, religions, ethnic groups, and socioeconomics as well as offering parents a way to connect with their kids. Founded in 2005, Pitch In For Baseball & Softball (PIFBS) believes in the power of sport to contribute to positive youth development and build community. PIFBS exists to remove equipment as a barrier to participation for underprivileged children around the world. PIFBS serves as an intermediary and connector between fans of the game, industry leaders, and the broader community to the kids who need the support the most. Over the past 20 years, PIFBS has donated $40 million in equipment to help more than 2.4 million children play ball in every state in the U.S. and 119 countries globally.
Siel Bleu's Mission: empowering lives through movement At Siel Bleu, our mission goes beyond simply encouraging physical activity; we believe that movement has the power to transform lives. Through tailored and accessible physical activity programs, we strive to enhance the health, independence, and well-being of individuals, particularly older adults and vulnerable populations. Whether through community-based programs or collaborations with healthcare providers, we are committed to empowering people of all ages to lead healthier, more active lives. We know that the benefits of movement go far beyond physical fitness. Regular exercise can improve mobility, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, boost mental health, and combat isolation. For older adults and those facing physical or cognitive challenges, staying active is essential for maintaining a high quality of life. That's why we design our programs to meet individuals where they are, adapting each session to their abilities and needs. Whether it's through gentle movement, strength-building activities, or social engagement, our goal is to make every person feel capable, supported, and motivated to stay active. Our approach is grounded in inclusivity, which is why we make physical activity accessible to everyone. We understand that barriers to exercise-such as limited mobility, lack of motivation, or social isolation-can make it difficult for some to get started. By creating a safe and welcoming environment, we ensure that every participant can enjoy the benefits of movement, regardless of their starting point. Our programs are designed not just to improve physical health, but also to strengthen mental and emotional well-being, offering a holistic approach that focuses on the whole person. But our impact doesn't stop there. At Siel Bleu, we are also deeply committed to creating a sense of community and social connection. For many individuals, particularly older adults, isolation can be a major challenge. Our programs provide not only the physical benefits of exercise but also the social and emotional support that comes from being part of a group. By fostering meaningful relationships and bringing people together through shared activities, we combat loneliness and help individuals build stronger, more supportive social networks. We also recognize the critical role that caregivers and healthcare professionals play in the well-being of those we serve. Our programs support caregivers by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to care for others while also taking care of their own health. Through educational resources and hands-on support, we empower caregivers to integrate physical activity into their caregiving routines, improving their own health while enhancing the quality of life for those they care for. The heart of our mission is rooted in collaboration. By working alongside healthcare providers, local community organizations, and international partners, we build networks of support that create lasting change. Together, we strive to improve access to physical activity, reduce healthcare costs, and ensure that all individuals, regardless of age or ability, have the opportunity to live independently and participate fully in society. Siel Bleu currently operates across Europe, with a strong presence in France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Germany and Ireland, and we are excited to expand our reach further. We aim to bring our programs to more countries, ensuring that even more people benefit from the power of movement. Our goal is to create a widespread network that promotes active aging and supports individuals in living their lives to the fullest, regardless of their circumstances. At Siel Bleu, we are not just helping people move-we are helping them thrive. Our programs aim to create a world where health, mobility, and community are accessible to everyone. By empowering individuals through movement, we foster healthier, happier lives and build stronger communities where all individuals can contribute to society, regardless of their age or physical abilities. healthcare costs, and ensure that all individuals, regardless of age or ability, have the opportunity to live independently and participate fully in society.
