Friends of Ferdinand Indiana

We are dedicated to transitioning retired racehorses into second careers and placing them in the right home. We are based in Central Indiana and have facilities in both Indiana and Ohio. Established in 2005, FFI took its name from famed racehorse Ferdinand who earned four million dollars on the track and won the KY Derby, but was ultimately led to slaughter. Our mission is very clear - To promote equine welfare by providing chances for second careers to retiring racehorses in Indiana, Ohio and throughout the Midwest. We believe that it is a shame that retired racehorses who are sound, have the potential to be sound, have good minds and have options for a second career should face an uncertain future.

Fugees Family

Since our founding in 2006, our mission has been the same: Leveling the Playing Field for young refugees. Through a commitment to education and high expectations, both in the classroom and on the pitch, we’ve impacted the lives of hundreds of refugee families. With humble beginnings as an after-school soccer program, we have grown to encompass multiple campuses in two states. Our model is unique: Our students, 100% refugee and ranging from 6th through 12th grade, receive full scholarships to attend Fugees Academies. With the backing of thousands of individuals and businesses our students are given all the tools they need to find success in their new homes, preventing the cycle of poverty from beginning again.

Battery Conservancy

The Battery Conservancy, a non-profit educational corporation, was created in 1994 to revitalize The Battery and renew the spirit of Castle Clinton National Monument, the park's major landmark. The goal is to return The Battery and Castle to their historic roles as the center of cultural life in the Harbor and Downtown New York. The historic Battery, at the southern tip of Manhattan, is one of the most visited parks in New York City. An estimated 6 million people visit The Battery and the Castle annually, including national and international tourists, school children, and local residents and workers in Downtown Manhattan. Sweeping views of the Harbor and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island frame the setting for New York's premier waterfront park. Visitors stroll along the 1500-foot Admiral Dewey Promenade at the water's edge, which is also the point of departure for the many ferries taking people to harbor attractions. The park's 25 acres are home to 21 monuments, memorials and works of art, many related to the Battery's role in the history of immigration and defense. The Conservancy plays a pivotal role among organizations vitally interested in the future of The Battery, the downtown district, the waterfront, the quality of community life and the environment in New York. New York City owns and maintains Battery Park through the Department of Parks & Recreation; the U.S. government owns and maintains Castle Clinton through the National Park Service; and both are major sites in New York State's Harbor Heritage Area. Warrie Price, founding President of the Conservancy, serves as the City's Battery Park Administrator and the State's Heritage Area Director.

Champion Community Sport and Health CIC

Champions Community Sport and Health CIC was established in September 2020, by our Director Craig Gilmore. Having delivered sport in the South Leeds community for over 18 years, Craig identified that a large proportion of children/young adults in South Leeds whose families were struggling financially, didn't have the funds to join the more traditional sports clubs/organised activities in the area, and consequently were becoming increasingly inactive, hungry, socially isolated and in some cases, involved in local gangs and anti-social behaviour. In response to this problem, we started to provide FREE turn up and play football sessions for children/young adults in the South Leeds area. Sessions are every Saturday 10.30am - 11.30am on Hunslet Moor in Beeston, Leeds. We also include breakfast and lunch as most arrive hungry and don't go home. Our aim is to make sport available to young people, who live in what is one of the most deprived areas of Leeds, irrespective of their age, ability and background. Our first session was attended by 18 children/young people and our most recent by 102, with 410 names on our database. This has been achieved through word of mouth, and because Craig (our Director) has the trust of the children/young people and their families living in the area, having taught many of them from the age of 4 years old. Approximately 98% of those attending are of a Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) background, which reflects the diversity of the local population. We also run camps in the school holidays Easter, Summer and Christmas. This is to address the free school meal gap, ensuring each child doesn't go hungry during these weeks.
