The Riekes Center, founded in 1996, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Menlo Park. We serve 7,000+ students a year from East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City, as well as across the Bay Area and around the world. Our mission is to provide community members of all ages with the best possible opportunity to define and accomplish their individual goals, build character, and learn transferable life skills while participating in our Athletic Fitness, Creative Arts, Nature Awareness, and Community Service programs. Outside the Lens (OTL) activates and amplifies voices of historically marginalized individuals through photography, filmmaking, and media arts, catalyzing change within themselves, their community, and the world. For over 20 years, we have delivered an adaptable curriculum to 22,000 youth in weekly classes, after-school programs, summer sessions, workshops, and teacher training. We use cameras and digital media along with a proven educational strategy that allows youth to think creatively, engage in issues that are important to them, and advocate for social change.
