Mission: End Violent Conflict. It’s our purpose- our call to action. Everyday, we see images of refugees fleeing from conflict in the Middle East. Of families torn apart by war. Of women abused by the men who were supposed to protect them. Of violence between people of different religions and political beliefs. Our solution? We transform the way people deal with conflict - building sustainable peace for generations to come. We work with all sides of a conflict, providing the tools they need to work together and find solutions. Our approaches include Community projects like street theater and sports games; Media including radio shows, comic books, and television shows; and Dialogue, such as leadership workshops, back channel diplomacy, and town hall meetings.   Instead of tearing down an existing world, we focus on constructing a new one.

Center for Community Alternatives

The Center for Community Alternatives (CCA), founded in 1981, is a leader in community-based alternatives to incarceration and policy advocacy to reduce reliance on incarceration. We provide direct services to communities in New York City, Syracuse and Rochester, engaging approximately 2,500 youth and adults annually who would otherwise be incarcerated. The great majority of our participants are African-American or Latino/a and come from poor or low-income communities. In addition to direct services, CCA works to bring about a more just and humane criminal justice system. We have achieved success in persuading the State Legislature to adopt "reintegration" as a goal of sentencing; in reforming New York's drug laws; and in realigning New York's juvenile justice system so that more youth are placed in programs in their home communities, rather than detention or incarceration. We are currently leading a national campaign to reduce barriers to college admission for people with criminal records. In an average year, CCA successfully diverts 100 adults and as many juveniles from costly incarceration, saving New York State millions of dollars. Our work reduces the collateral consequences of incarceration, strengthens families and builds safer communities. CCA serves people in trouble: youth at risk; families in crisis; people struggling to address drug and alcohol problems and HIV and AIDS; and people who have been involved in the criminal justice system who are seeking community reintegration and productive, law-abiding lives. CCA endeavors to address these issues by emphasizing personal empowerment, self-respect and concern for one's community.

Pitch In For Baseball

At its very simplest, baseball/softball is a game that is played by boys and girls in backyards, parks, playgrounds, and sandlots. It is a time to be outdoors and spend with friends – old and new, an opportunity to be part of a team, and experience the highs of winning and the agony of defeat. This is what childhood is about – to play, be carefree, and just have a chance to a kid. In addition to its pure play element, the is also a powerful vehicle for youth development teaching important life lessons like teamwork, respect, keeping a commitment, and the art of winning and losing. It also helps build self-confidence, offers a constructive alternative for the key after-school hours, and gives kids positive role models in their coaches. It is a game that brings communities together - unifying people from different backgrounds, religions, ethnic groups, and socioeconomics as well as offering parents a way to connect with their kids. Founded in 2005, Pitch In For Baseball & Softball (PIFBS) believes in the power of sport to contribute to positive youth development and build community. PIFBS exists to remove equipment as a barrier to participation for underprivileged children around the world. PIFBS serves as an intermediary and connector between fans of the game, industry leaders, and the broader community to the kids who need the support the most. Over the past 20 years, PIFBS has donated $40 million in equipment to help more than 2.4 million children play ball in every state in the U.S. and 119 countries globally.
