Donate4Refugees

At Donate4Refugees our vision is for every displaced person in Europe to be welcomed with humanity and respect in Europe and given the helping hand they need to find safety, peace and happiness in their new forever home. We work collaboratively to help ensure every displaced man, women and child asking for Europe's help gets the support they need to start their new life with dignity. That is, to have a place to live, enough food to eat, clothes to wear, warmth, lighting and hygiene. Along with access to essential information and education. We primarily do this by raising money that helps fund inspiring humanitarian projects delivered on-the-ground by our grassroots volunteer partners. We work together keeping people and hope alive. "Whoever you think are the most disadvantaged people in society, refugees are below that." - Trish Clowes, Donate4Refugees' Ambassador Right now, as you and I adapt to life amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Europe's humanity to refugees has scarcely been worse. Did you know that at the UK border in northern France there's no shelter and little food or water for refugees? That rising hostility is played out through police brutality and cruel policy? Meanwhile, on the Greek mainland, evictions are making hundreds of families street homeless, living in poverty. Whilst the Greek arrival islands buckle under severe over-crowding, lack of basic hygiene and appalling food within camps sending tensions inside the camps, and right wing violence outside of them, soaring. Life for refugees in Europe's hot spots in 2020 is utterly miserable. The hope in people's eyes is disappearing, the smiles are fading... Now that you know, will you help? Within this devastating environment our volunteers are too often providing the only lifeline to refugees. Donate4Refugees uniquely brings together donations from individuals, businesses and trusts to give grants and emergency funding to our trusted grassroots partners on-the-ground. Those volunteers supporting refugee communities on Europe's front-lines. Together we're filling shamefully big gaps in aid and humanity and, without the tireless dedication of our volunteers, refugee men, women and children would be struggling to even survive. We're acting now providing very real help, human-to-human, to many of the world's most vulnerable people. We only wish we didn't have to.

Refugee Rescue

Refugee Rescue is a humanitarian and non-governmental organisation operating a skilled search and rescue (SAR) team on the North Shore of Lesvos, Greece. It was founded in response to inadequate search and rescue infrastructure in 2015 and is the only remaining dedicated SAR NGO in the region. Our rescue boat "Mo Chara" and SAR crew are currently based in the small fishing village of Skala Sikamineas. On call 24/7, the Refugee Rescue team is always ready to respond in the event of an emergency. From rescuing people abandoned at the foot of inaccessible cliffs, to intercepting fragile dinghies and guiding them to safe landing zones, to facilitating transfers with authority vessels: our work on land and sea seeks to make this perilous crossing a little less dangerous for those seeking refuge. While the focus of our Emergency Response is on our SAR operations on the water, the boat crew receives vital support from our land coordinator and a team of volunteers. Onshore operations include spotting to identify boats in distress, in order the vessels can be intercepted and brought to safety, as well as working alongside partner organisations to distribute clothing, blankets, emergency supplies. We also assist the UNCHR in identifying protection or medical cases. Beyond the shoreline, we are increasingly expanding our attention to challenge the wider context of migration, as well as an increasing threat to the right to SAR more broadly. Refugee Rescue is now a member of the SAROBMED (Search and Rescue Observatory for the Mediterranean), which is an international, multi-disciplinary consortium of researchers, civil society groups, and other organisations working to prevent human rights violations on the Mediterranean.

Epapsy - Association for Regional Development and Mental Health

EPAPSY (Association for Regional Development and Mental Health) was founded in 1988, on the initiative of the Professor of Social Psychiatry, Stelios Stylianidis, proposing an alternative model of psychiatric care in the community based on the principles of Social Psychiatry and Psychosocial Rehabilitation. EPAPSY's history is synonymous with the history of psychiatric reform in Greece, the struggles for the abolition of psychiatric asylums, the destigmatization of mental illness and the care of people with psychosocial problems with respect towards their rights and dignity. It all began with the opening of the first Psychosocial Rehabilitation Guest House in Greece, in 1990. Since then, its people work tirelessly to provide integrated mental health care to the community. Today, EPAPSY is one of the largest non-profit mental health service providers in Greece, having the scientific and administrative responsibility of twenty-three Psychosocial Rehabilitation Accommodation Units throughout Greece, two Mobile Mental Health Units in the Cyclades and two Day Centers in Athens and Larissa. Within its scientific framework, it coordinates and implements European and international projects in collaboration with UNHCR, the European Alliance Against Depression, the Bodossaki Foundation and other important entities, while it responds to social and health crises and natural disasters. Being faithful to the principles of Community Psychiatry and Psychosocial Rehabilitation, it has supported the establishment and operation of Social Cooperatives of Limited Liability in the 5th Mental Health Sector of Attica, in Central Greece and Trikala, as well as of local mental health associations in Chalkida, the northern suburbs of Attica and Boeotia. Always focused on its founding vision, EPAPSY regularly publishes scientific articles, delivers speeches and gives interviews in national media on the promotion of mental health in the community, psychosocial rehabilitation and the prevention of psychosocial problems. For there is no health without mental health and there is no mental health without equal access to the goods and services ensuring everyone's right to live.

One Happy Family

One Happy Family (OHF) is a collaborative community-based project with the aim of filling the gaps created by insufficient governmental interventions through the provision of basic human needs, security and stability at various levels. Our mission is to provide a space where everyone feels welcome, everyone has the possibility to grow, to learn, to be involved and where everyone's skills are valued. Ultimately, OHF strives to address, act on, and reduce prejudices against displaced people. OHF is a Swiss-founded organization, initially established on Lesvos Island in 2017 as a direct response to the refugee crisis of 2015. In Lesvos, OHF operated a community space in which people could visit during the day, with varying activities and services including, but not limited to, food, basic needs items and clothing distribution, as well as educational programs. Now based in Victoria Community Centre in Athens, having relocated mainland from Lesvos Island in March 2022, One Happy Family (OHF) continues to respond to the direct needs of displaced persons, now within an urban context. Crucially, we work WITH the people, not FOR them - including the communities into the daily tasks, decision making processes and coordination is within our core values and helps us to constantly adjust our projects to the existing needs. Our programmes addresse the growing need for social integration within the refugee and asylum seeking communities in Greece by providing a safe space where asylum seekers and refugees can meet other like-minded individuals, but also collaboratively learn and share valuable skills that can assist with integration into their social surroundings.
