VICTORIA NATIVE FRIENDSHIP CENTRE

Hi’chka Siem, Kleco Kleco, Gelakasla The Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC) has been in existence for 40 years. VNFC Provides services to an estimated 15,000 Aboriginal people living off reserve in the greater Victoria area; as well as the 5,000 residents from the First Nations communities in the southern Vancouver Island region, in addition to a sizeable Aboriginal population from across Canada. In 2006, VNFC signed a 99 year lease with the School Board of British Columbia, to take possession of a 38,000 square foot facility. Addressing the Community’s immediate needs, VNFC delivers Career and Employment services, Health and Social programs, vibrant Youth initiatives, and dynamic arts and cultural practices. In addition to our programs and services, our wheelchair accessible facility hosts a preschool, gymnasium, amphitheatre, meeting rooms, and outdoor basketball courts and playgrounds. It's an exciting time at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.

DAYSTAR NATIVE CHRISTIAN OUTREACH

DayStar is a dream that is seeing light and hope come into the lives of the Native People that DayStar serves. It is a dream that is seeing godly Native leaders raised up to show the people in their communities that there is a God who loves them - a God who loves them personally, deeply and passionately. DayStar is a 'place' where kids can come and have fun, be supervised and cared for by people who love children, a place where the love of Jesus is taught and reflected. DayStar is Summer Clubs. With the help of volunteers from churches in both Canada and the USA, DayStar provides fun-filled summer day-club experiences for kids of all ages. Days are filled with fun activities and practical lessons learned from heroes of the Bible. DayStar is fellowship groups for men and women. A time each week where people can come together for fellowship and lessons from God's Word. DayStar is a safe place where people can find a listening and compassionate ear.

Adopt-A-Native-Elder

ANE supports Navajo Elder weavers living at or below poverty level in remote areas of UT and AZ reservations. We help them sell their rugs online and at rug shows so they get full value and sell more. We provide humanitarian aid to Elders who are too disabled to support themselves.  Each Spring and Fall volunteers pack and deliver food and supplies to 11 areas of reservation in community gatherings called Food Runs.  For the annual November Deer Valley Rug Show ANE brings Elder weavers and their family to Park City, provides for their lodging and food, and all of the money from the sale of their rugs goes to the weavers.  Elders in the program are 75-109 years old, many do not speak English, many heat with wood and do not have running water in their homes.
