Founded in 1992, Charities Aid Foundation of America (CAF America) is a US 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to make giving internationally and domestically safe, easy, and effective for US donors. To accomplish this mission, CAF America streamlines the global grantmaking process, reducing risk, reputational exposure and administrative burden, while at the same time enabling its clients to make strategic, cost-effective, and tax-advantaged grants. CAF America provides global reach as a member of the CAF Global Alliance, with offices and partner organizations in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Russia, Bulgaria, South Africa, and Brazil.

We, the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, choose to live the Gospel in the prophetic spirit of Francis of Assisi and our foundress Mother Francis Bachmann. With Jesus Christ as Brother, we live as sisters with one another, with the entire human family, and with all creation. Calling ourselves and one another to continuous conversion of heart, we commit ourselves to a life of contemplation, poverty, and humility. As vowed women of the Church, we respond with diverse gifts in a spirit of collaboration and of mutual service to the needs of others, especially the economically poor, the marginal, and the oppressed. Seeking to participate in the Spirit’s action in the world, we direct our personal and corporate resources to the promotion of justice, peace, and reconciliation.

Our mission is as relevant now, if not more so, than it was to the women who founded our congregation over 350 years ago. As the world changes and its problems grow complex, the answer remains simple: live in profound love of God and neighbor without distinction. The Sisters of St. Joseph live, pray and act to form loving relationships with ourselves, community, Church, society and all creation. To achieve this we work together with others dedicated to prayer, service, social justice, consciousness raising and systemic change. A religious order’s charism is its unique spirit, its gift to the church. The charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph is loving unity. It comes directly from Jesus’ prayer, “that all may be one.” (John 17:21). A radical calling in this day and age!
