Pledge Powers Donations for New Partnership Between ‘Barbie: The Movie’ and Save The Children 💖

July 18, 2023

As the highly anticipated release of 'Barbie: The Movie' draws near, global excitement and the “Barbie-pink” effect are visible everywhere 💖

At Pledge, we’re tickled pink to power donations for an incredible partnership between ‘Barbie: The Movie’ and Save the Children, which aims to unlock the potential within countless girls across the globe and create a pathway for them to flourish and achieve their dreams..

The “Help Girls Everywhere Achieve Their Dreams” campaign is led by Pledge's close partner, Warner Bros. Discovery's social impact solutions team. This dynamic team harnesses the influence of WBD's brands and franchises to actively engage viewers, advertisers, and business partners in addressing crucial social issues.

The incredible PSAs about this initiative (as shown below) reinforce Mattel's longstanding collaboration with Save the Children, including their remarkable efforts through the Barbie Dream Gap Project. This initiative is based on research that highlights how girls, by the age of 5, develop self-limiting beliefs that hinder their belief in their unlimited potential.

Stars from ‘Barbie: The Movie’, including Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, and Will Ferrell, filmed a text-to-donate PSA that encourages viewers to text BARBIE to 707070 and join WBD in supporting the work of Save the Children. The PSAs began airing on June 30th, 2023, on WBD platforms globally, from sports and streaming to cable and broadcast.

As the world's leading organization for children, Save the Children has programs in nearly 120 countries, and just last year their efforts reached nearly 48.8 million children directly. Part of their mission is to create immediate and lasting change in children’s lives by improving their health, education, and economic opportunities– recognizing the challenging inequalities in gender, many of which start from early childhood. The estimate that it will take over 200 years to achieve gender equality based on the current rate of change, and that’s just in the U.S. Save the Children strives to provide every girl and boy with an equal chance to survive and thrive.

With a US text-to-donate campaign, a U.S. donation form, and five international donation forms to the Save the Children chapters in Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, and Korea, we could not be more excited about this global effort. In the U.S., donations will support Save the Children’s early education, summer, and after-school programming. Internationally, they will go towards Save the Children’s services across the education, health, justice, and child protection sectors.

According to Luciana Bonifacio, Save the Children's Chief Development Officer, as stated in a recent article by Vanity Fair, "Save the Children was founded by a visionary woman who dared to achieve what others considered impossible. This enduring legacy continues to inspire us as we strive to empower girls worldwide to embrace their inherent potential. That's why we are thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Discovery, Mattel, and the film 'Barbie' to offer girls in the United States and across the globe access to education and resources, instilling in them the belief in their own capabilities and empowering them to turn their dreams into reality."

We are tickled pink by this global collaboration! Please join us and help provide resources that will empower girls to help them excel. Text ‘BARBIE’ to 707070 or head to any of the following links to make an impact today 💖
