The mission of the Michael J. Owen Music Education Fund is to foster a passion for music among elementary school students.
Music education is often under-funded in today’s schools. In addition, teachers face the incredible challenge of having 30 minutes once a week to teach 10 to 12 students a variety of instruments. To ensure that students will enjoy learning and make better progress, MJOMEF hires professional musicians as teaching assistants in the classroom to provide one-on-one coaching. This coaching helps students who need a little extra attention as well as students making rapid progress. This enables the teacher to continue with the rest of the class in an uninterrupted manner. MJOMEF also provides musical instruments and books for students who are financially unable to purchase these items. This year 185 students in 7 schools are benefitting from our support.
