As PN continues to grow its programs and expand its network of shelter partnerships, we remain dedicated to bringing healing and hope to even more families in need. Consider Ana, a 22-year-old former resident of Interval House, who shared how PN's gifts brought light to one of the darkest times in her life. "When I lived at Interval House in 2016, I was 16 and didn’t want to celebrate my birthday. I felt sad and didn’t want to put any more pressure on my mom, who was already struggling. I didn’t want her to spend money we didn’t have just to celebrate me. But everything changed when I received a gift from PN. We baked a birthday cake together, and for the first time in a long time, we celebrated as a family. We even had a meal at IHOP, thanks to the gift card included in the birthday box. I was so surprised and lucky to receive such thoughtful presents picked out just for me. It’s a memory I’ll always cherish. Your gift made me feel special and cared for during a difficult time. It gave me hope and brought happiness to my family when we needed it most." Ana’s story is just one of many that illustrate the profound impact PN’s programs have on the lives of children and families recovering from domestic violence.

Presence of Love Volunteer Event @ Mattel HQ Mattel volunteers gathered to pack Presence of Love gifts which include an age-appropriate STEAM-oriented gift to encourage and aid in learning to support the emotional recovery and well-being of children affected by domestic violence. The Presence of Love gifts always promotes a flexible learning environment so children can pursue their education and tap into their creativity no matter where they live.

Per the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately. 3.3 million children are exposed to domestic violence in their homes annually, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and academic challenges. When families experiencing domestic violence flee their homes, they often leave all of their possessions behind as the safe parent creates a new normal for their family. Children and young adults who witness domestic violence are exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which can have negative, lasting effects on health, well-being, and opportunity. PRESENT NOW (PN) is dedicated to supporting children and their families transitioning out of temporary domestic violence shelters. Our vision is to ensure that every youth and family affected by domestic violence experiences the warmth of a supportive community, finds comfort in moments of joy, and is empowered to rebuild a future full of love and possibility. By providing essential items and support, PRESENT NOW enhances the physical and emotional well-being of vulnerable youth, contributing to healthier lives. Through initiatives that supply educational materials and resources, PN ensures that children experiencing the trauma of childhood domestic violence have access to learning opportunities, advancing inclusive and equitable education. The Presents Program also benefits the safe parent, who are overwhelmingly mothers and bear the responsibility of rebuilding their families’ lives while managing the trauma they’ve endured. In partnership with transitional domestic violence shelters, PN aims to create healthy and supportive relationships between mothers and their children as they rebuild their lives by alleviating the financial burden of giving gifts to their children during a high-stress time. Through our work, PN addresses SDG goals 3, 4, 5, & 10 by creating pathways for resilience, healing, and a brighter future for those affected by domestic violence.
