York County Humane Society

Our Mission

The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. We are located in Fort Mill, South Carolina and serve the greater Charlotte region including York, Lancaster and Mecklenburg counties. We successfully placed over 513 animals in loving homes last year preventing them from being euthanized. In an effort to stop future overpopulation, we require that all adopted animals be spayed or neutered before leaving this shelter. Mission Our mission is to prevent animal suffering; to help reduce overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering, to educate the public about animal welfare and to place adoptable animals in loving homes. We advocate for animal welfare legislation and support the prosecution of animal abusers. "When we say we want to find a 'forever' home for our animals, we mean a family that will treat them like a true member of their family. Beyond healthy food and a warm protected bed, they deserve attention and acknowledgement through training and grooming. They deserve love until the end of their days. We want this for all animals beyond the scope of our small shelter. For all the animals we bring in that have been abused, unloved, neglected, there are so many more that we don't see who desperately need help. Animal welfare laws are imperative to make people stop mistreating animals. A slap on the hand doesn't work. So many out there don't even have the basics that the 'laws' require - food, shelter from the elements, and water. Just trying to make the laws stronger for these animals is a full time effort and there is no time to try to be extremists. For the love and companionship they provide to us, we speak for them and all those out there who are alone and hungry."
