The Africa Exchange Project cultivates a partnership between the people of Tanzania and the United States to increase cross-cultural awareness and improve health, education, and well-being in rural Tanzania.
We are undertaking a much needed renovation of Pomerini Primary, Vocational and Special Needs School, including significant repairs to and decoration of the classrooms’ walls and floors, and repairs to, and where needed the replacement of, desks, tables, chairs, bookshelves and cupboards.
We are helping vulnerable women and children by improving the local health clinic, providing beds and equipment as well as medical supplies to help improve the quality of care available to pregnant women, children and the elderly.
The combination of school fees and a patriarchal society means that many girls do not complete a secondary education. Our Barnabas Chavala Scholarship Fund is awarded to female students to provide six years of funding at $775 per year to cover room, board, tuition and health insurance to ensure more female students see their secondary education to completion.
In July 2023, the new Science Center building was officially opened, marking the completion of a four year effort to build a fully equipped science facility for Pomerini High School that will improve the quality of science education and aid the country's much needed transition from an agricultural to a technology-based society.
The Africa Exchange Project provides access to clean water, quality education and reliable healthcare in Pomerini, Tanzania.
