Pledge to make a difference, together.
Horizons of Friendship was founded by three Canadians from Cobourg, Ontario as a result of their volunteer experience in Honduras in Central America. It was incorporated as a non-profit, charitable organization in 1973. Since then, our work has grown considerably to include Mexico and all six Spanish-speaking countries in Central America - the area known as Mesoamerica. The success of our program has reinforced the commitment upon which Horizons of Friendship was built; helping people living in poverty in both rural and urban areas to help themselves. Our self-help community development projects provide a viable alternative to poverty and underdevelopment. The projects are holistic in nature, addressing a variety of concerns such as land ownership, indigenous people and women's rights, public health issues and environmental concerns, and also include safe water, health, housing and skills training. All projects are initiated by the communities themselves.
