Our Mission

Burlington Public Library is a large urban Canadian library system serving a population of 175,779 on the western boundary of the Greater Toronto Area. Established in 1872, the Library has six locations citywide. A fifth branch is currently under construction in northeast Burlington and scheduled to open in fall 2013 as a joint integrated public and high school library. A City-appointed citizen Board governs the Library, with a CEO responsible for overseeing its operations, including 57 full-time and 154 part-time non-unionized employees, and 59 community volunteers.

The Library belongs to everyone in the community. Every person, regardless of their differences, has access to a vast array of resources and services within a safe and welcoming environment. It is a popular local gathering place and a portal to the global community through the Internet. Burlington Public Library is consistently ranked as a top community service and customer service excellence is always first priority.
