To celebrate the craft that first brought the country together. To promote a symbol of Canadian unity and one that joins Aboriginal cultures to the two founding cultures of Canada - French and English. To link Canadians to their land. To develop satellite exhibits for every region of the country. To develop a curriculum-linked education program for teachers and students, for use in the Museum, in satellite exhibits and in schools across the country. To promote multi-culturalism by collecting craft that represent all the cultures of Canada that use the canoe. To develop a national research institute. To promote canoeing as a sport and as a way to see Canada. To preserve the art of canoe and kayak building.
