Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia (www.habitatns.ca) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that connects with volunteers and community partners to help families in Nova Scotia break the cycle of poverty through home ownership and to help change lives - one family at a time.
Habitat for Humanity (HFH) was established in Halifax in 1992 as a regional organization. In 2011, it officially became Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia, a provincial affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada and part of a worldwide network that spans 100 countries, has built over 250,000 homes, and is now building a new home every 21 minutes!
Since 1992, HFH NS volunteers and partners have built homes for 34 families in need of a hand up.
Habitat NS now has projects in several communities and is developing new opportunities. It also operates the ReStore, which accepts and resells quality new and used building materials to generate funds to support of build programs around the province.
