Pledge to make a difference, together.
CanU brings children from Winnipeg's most challenged neighbourhoods together with Manitoba university students for mentoring, practical life skill development and an introduction to the potential of a post-secondary education. Objectives of the program include: (1) Improving each child's physical fitness and achieve a higher level of health, (2) increasing their nutrition knowledge and acquire important skills for healthy living (i.e. kitchen safety, food preparation, budgeting, cooking, etc), (3) provide additional educational opportunities to see academic and intellectual improvements, particularly in literacy development, (4) remove barriers such as lack of familiarity and intimidation regarding the possibility of post-secondary education, (5) encourage the development of leadership qualities and provide leadership opportunities for inner city children, (6) develop volunteers committed to community service and to the mentoring of under-resourced persons in communities of complexity.
