Cascadia Wild is a Portland-based non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization whose mission is to connect people with the natural world.
It started 1998, as a group of people joined together because they wanted to share their knowledge of the natural world with others. Since that time we have been able to offer many nature education programs to schools and independent groups, develop a partnership with the Mt Hood National Forest to spearhead rare carnivore monitoring efforts via the Wolverine Tracking Project, and mentor thousands of people in animal tracking, wild edible plants, and many other naturalist skills.
With our keystone project the Wolverine Tracking Project, we helped confirm the presence of a wolverine in Mount Hood National forest, the first sighting in over 30 years.
Cascadia Wild trail camera wildlife surveys captured some of the earliest images of gray wolves dispersing into the Mt. Hood area, marking a significant moment in Oregon's carnivore recovery story.
Cascadia Wild were among the first organizations to document the Sierra Nevada red fox on Mt. Hood. This discovery played a key role in developing its current conservation strategy at Oregon's Department of Fish and Wildlife.
1. Good Health and Well-being Cascadia Wild promotes mental and physical well-being by connecting people to the outdoors. By facilitating experiences in moderately to highly remote environments, we help individuals find grounding and place-based belonging, which are shown to lower indicators of anxiety and depression. 2. Quality Education We provide a transformative educational pathway, guiding volunteers from novices to skilled apprentices and, ultimately, to qualified field leaders through hands-on training and mentorship. 3. Life on Land Cascadia Wild strengthens the connection between people and terrestrial ecosystems by teaching ancient and modern wildlife tracking techniques. This education fosters humility, heightened situational awareness, and a detailed understanding of ecological stories, empowering individuals to become better stewards of the land.
