Artists in Healthcare, Manitoba Inc.

Artists in Healthcare, Manitoba (AIHM)believes that music and the arts are essential for a healthy life. We have a vision to integrate the arts, in all their forms to healthcare to benefit patients, families and staff. Research demonstrates that healing occurs best when the whole person; body, mind and spirit is engaged. Patients say the music provides an oasis from stress and anxiety, as evidenced by comments such as: " I just received a cancer diagnosis, but for the 10 minutes I was sitting here, listening to you play, I forgot." Our programming promotes healing and preventative health by reducing stress in chemotherapy treatment, palliative care, dialysis, geriatric rehab, and on units and waiting areas throughout the hospitals. We believe the universal language of art speaks powerfully in healthcare settings, and transforms the environment in unique and healing ways.

Kids Can Fly, Early Child Development and Parenting Support

Kids Can Fly is a registered charity that supports early learning and parenting. We were founded in 2001. The mandate of Kids Can Fly is to help ALL children maximize their potential. We base what we do on the research of the late Dr. Fraser Mustard. This foundation of this research is that a baby’s brain is only 20% wired at birth and their experiences (or lack thereof) during the first six years of life set the stage for lifelong learning, health and well being. We also believe that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers and therefore we strive to help provide nurturing and learning for parents so they can do the very best job possible. Kids Can Fly likes to be considered a catalyst to help bring about change, fill gaps as they appear and to advocate for children and families.

Education Beyond Borders

Education Beyond Borders (formerly Teachers Without Borders - Canada), incorporated in 2007, is devoted to closing the education divide through teacher professional development and community education. EBB is supported entirely by individual donors and corporate/foundation grants. We work primarily, but not exclusively, in developing countries, to build self-reliance, health, and capacity. We seek to empower by developing and implementing seminars and workshops that are consistent with best educational practices and sensitive to the host country’s curricula. With the help of technology, EBB will also create a network of teachers and their peers from various countries to collaborate on lessons that would allow their students to work together on topics of global importance and relevance. We seek to create sustainable relationships that will enhance our own classrooms by infusing our curriculum with global experiences and cultures through joint student projects.

Amarok Society

Amarok Society is a Canadian charity that goes into the world's most forbidding slums to teach mothers to teach children too poor for school. Daily, each mother goes from her Amarok Society Womens' School to teach at least 5 children from her neighbourhood in her own home. Amarok Society teaches literacy in Bangla, English and numeracy as well as health and hygiene and child care and development. The wonderful women of our Mothers of Intention Projects overcome a lifetime of bitter discouragement to find inspiration and hope in the promise that the children will be able to work their way out of their terrible poverty and debilitating ignorance. This is a new, effective, sustainable and cost-efficient method of addressing a very serious and dangerous problem that has resisted improvement in the past. Teach a Mother, Change the World

Mission Statement Red Noses Clown Doctors Foundation is an artistic organisation bringing humour and laughter to people in need of joy, especially for children and the elderly. Presence in Hungary In Hungary, we are working with 15 childrens' hospital countrywide, and an ever-growing number of schools for children with disablities and elderly homes. Work in Hospitals 1. Regular visits Our mission is mainly focused on field work in hospitals. The regular clown visits to children's wards have an important impact on the psychosocial wellbeing and the recovery process of the children. Through visits at the bedside children are empowered to return to their natural playfulness and to give them the much needed impetus for self-confidence and courage. 2. Intensive Smile In our Intensive Smile format clowns have become more and more integrated into the treatments and therapies of young patients. Their presence inspires a calm atmosphere reducing anxiety or fear and diverting the focus away from the medical procedure. 3. Circus Patientus The focus on long-term pediatric patients lies predominantly on their illness, which has a negative impact on their self-confidence and can cause feelings of inadequacy and depression to arise. All children who participate in "Circus Patientus" are empowered, bringing back the lightness of childhood and the levity of joyful playing. Staff Currently we employ 33 higly-trained clown staff with strong psychological and artistic background. Our Global Reach Red Noses is az international movement, currently present in 11 countries, mainly in continental Europe. Emergency Smile Programme Our proprietary Emergency Smile (ES) programme was developed to reach vulnerable people facing challenging circumstances across the globe. With over 11 international locations, Red Noses professional clowns work locally with children in hospitals, elderly people, people with disabilities and other groups in need of psychosocial support. Our ES locations include natural disaster sites, refugee camps, and countries impacted by war. Scientific Background Our extensive research insights are intended for all those who want to learn more about the power of the arts and humour for mental health and wellbeing.
