Students gather at 4.30 am to receive meditation instruction from S.N.Goenka, on audio and video, till 9 pm. They sit in a quiet environment. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit. Donations from students who have completed the course may be made through this website.

The adversities facing today's urban Aboriginal community determine USF's three core purposes: •Education and Employment Training: USF supports ACCESS and Aboriginal community education and training programs and services that enhance employment and career opportunities for urban Aboriginal people. •Scholarship Awards: USF provides secondary scholarships and bursaries to Metro Vancouver school districts, colleges and universities for urban Aboriginal students and for post-secondary scholarships in fields that will meet the specific needs of First Nations,Inuit, or Metis peoples and communities. USF would like to expand awards to all school districts, colleges and universities in the region. •Short Term Assistance: USF grants to urban Aboriginal organizations to deliver short-term assistance poverty relief projects and programs that will enable urban Aboriginal individuals and families to get back on track in times of need.

During the week long wilderness expeditions, participants take part in structured lessons in the following subject areas: canoeing and camping skills, geography, biology and ecology. Post-trip activities permit participants to share their experiences with their communities (e.g. school assemblies, articles in local newspapers) and to engage in the work of our environmental partners. At the present time only 41% of children in Sierra Leone have the opportunity to go to primary school and only 9% go on to attend secondary school due to the lack of financial and educational resources and the lack of schools. The unlucky ones, the ones who do not have the advantages that come with education, are left to suffer and fend for themselves in an unstable environment. By focusing on the development of communities and families, KANPE addresses the diverse needs of the Haitian people: health, nutrition, education, financial independence and assistance. KANPE is combining its expertise with that of other organizations that have proven themselves in the field, such as Partners in Health (Zanmi Lasanté), which specializes in free healthcare for the underprivileged, and Fonkoze, which is dedicated to helping impoverished families achieve financial independence. KANPE is pooling its efforts with its partners’ to create a new comprehensive program designed to assist and support Haitian society’s most vulnerable populations in their fight for a better future.
Through the establishment of a joint partnership agreement with Bolivian grassroots organization, Fundación Niños con Valor, BCF implements programs and projects that aim to alleviate poverty and its effects suffered by children and their families. These currently include residential programs for children who have been orphaned, abandoned or removed from high-risk situations. In the future, we hope to expand and include outreach programs to help stabilize at-risk-families, and community programs aimed at establishing new and supporting existing educational and health programs specifically benefiting mothers and children.
