The Scottish Rite Freemasons created the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada in 1964, funded by donations and bequests from thousands of members across the country. From the inception, the Foundation has concentrated its efforts in support of research into the causes of, and hopefully the eventual cure of “puzzles of the mind”, especially as it afflicts children and persons of advanced years. The Foundation concentrates its assistance in research into the causes of “puzzles of the mind” as opposed to active treatment. Each year, the Foundation disburses the income earned on its endowment funds to medical research and university bursaries. In recent years this disbursement has been approximately $550,000 annually. Giving has never been easier now that we can accept secure online donations with the assistance of CanadHelps.org. Donate in memoriam, in honour of family or friends, or to celebrate special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays and holidays.

NYA serves to enhance student participation and success in education, career development and community leadership, enabling youth to become full participants in the ongoing development of Canada’s north. As a result of 14 years of operations we have more than 250 alumni and have seen success in increasing high school graduation rates and helping to build a skilled and well-educated northern workforce. NYA's model of education through work and travel operates as separate, but related, 10 month long programs. In the Canadian Program participants spend 5 weeks living with a host family and volunteering at a work placement in southern Canada. In the second phase, the International Program, participants train at Algonguin College in the construction trades before travelling to Guatemala for 3 weeks to work on a charitable building project. Along with the opportunity to travel and gain new skills through volunteer work placements, youth are able to earn up to 18 high school credits.

Since 1950,the Junior League of Calgary (JLC) has been working to bridge the gap between society's needs and existing community resources. The result is a legacy of training, leadership and voluntarism that has made a difference in Calgary. Past projects include the launch of Calgary Reads, Junior Chefs, Kids Help Phone, and Volunteer Calgary. Current projects promote healthy and active living for youth. We believe that education and support for youth is critical in building self-esteem and reversing the cycle of poverty. The Teen Tote project collects gifts and hygiene items for teenagers who would otherwise be missed during the Christmas season. Kids in the Kitchen is an international education initiative to empower children to lead healthier lives through hands-on activities related to nutrition, food preparation and physical fitness. Kids in Motion and Kids in the Arts introduce preschool concepts to at-risk children using story-telling, crafts, dancing, music and games.

With roots that date back to 1936 when Nanaimo’s first vocational training school opened its doors, Vancouver Island University (VIU) shares a rich history and connectedness with its communities. VIU has evolved into a dynamic, internationally known university supporting a student population in excess of 18,000 full-and part-time learners, including 1100 international students, over 1500 aboriginal students, and employing over 2,000 faculty and staff. VIU operates four campuses including a main campus in Nanaimo and regional campuses in Duncan, Powell River and Parksville•Qualicum. VIU is also the proud owner of Milner Gardens and Woodlands in Qualicum Beach, recently named one of the top 10 public gardens in Canada. Offering programs from basic literacy to vocational programs, trades, undergraduate and graduate degrees, VIU encourages all students to explore their potential, discover more about their world and excel in both life and learning.

We achieve our mission through four major program areas, targeting youth and educators – in both official languages: 1. Science projects and science fairs – science projects in schools and homes; regional science fairs in every province and territory; the weeklong Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF); and Team Canada representing the country at Intel ISEF, MILSET, and other international youth science competitions and events. 2. Smarter Science – a framework, resources, and workshops for teaching and learning science through inquiry for teachers in grades 1-12. 3. SMARTS – our online community for youth and the adults who support them. 4. School Campaigns – Invent the Future and Youth Science Month – national campaigns that provide teachers in 11,000 schools (every school in the country with grades 7-12/Cégep) with information on inquiry, project-based science, science fairs, and the achievements of Canada’s young scientists.

The Yukon Wildlife Preserve is a 700-acre wildlife viewing facility located in Whitehorse,Yukon Territory, Canada. It is home to several species of northern ungulates, including muskox, moose, caribou, mountain sheep, elk, wood bison, and mule deer. It offers a full range of educational programs to the general public, including guided interpretive tours, self-guided exploration, on-site, experiential school programs for local students and summer Nature Camps for children. It also serves as the rescue and rehabilitation centre for northern bird and wildlife species in the Yukon.The Yukon Wildlife Preserve team is made up of a dedicated volunteer board of directors who employ 6 full-time staff to deliver the various programs and anywhere from 6-15 additional employees, usually summer students, during the busier summer months.The Preserve also hosts interns, volunteers, post-secondary research programs and northern environmental monitoring activities.

DOXA is an annual, international film festival that celebrates the art of the documentary. The festival provides a forum for critical debate and exchange on the documentary genre via artist talks, essays, and discussions on current themes and trends in documentary filmmaking. Since 1991, the magazine has published articles by many of the country's very best writers, on everything from international relations and cloning to new fiction. Guided by Editor-in-Chief Bronwyn Drainie, the LRC runs engaging reviews of new Canadian books and essays by some of the country’s most thought-provoking authors, in addition to original poetry and illustration. Contributors include Peter C. Newman, Lisa Moore, John Ralston Saul, Hugh Segal, Charlotte Gray, Linden MacIntyre, Erna Paris, Rawi Hage, Margaret Atwood, Ian Hacking, Denise Chong, Andrew Coyne, and Jennifer Welsh. Originally an incorporated not-for-profit, the LRC made the transition to charitable status in order to better fulfill its mission of sparking national conversation about important books and ideas. Donations help to support the efforts of the LRC staff, advisory council and other dedicated volunteers in advancing the cause of independent, intelligent Canadian media.

Programs: Energy Literacy Platform:Student Energy is currently building the first ever highly engaging Global Energy Literacy Platform designed to create unbiased, interesting energy information. Student Icons: Student Icons is quarterly award and recognition program to highlight two amazing students through a partnership with a group of media outlets. International Student Energy Summit (ISES): In 3 events, ISES has rapidly established itself as the pre-eminent student-driven energy conference globally. ISES is an elite forum where top students from around the world learn, discuss and connect. This success was personally recognized by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in June of 2013: http://www.un.org/sg/statements/index.asp?nid=6899 Regional Summits: The Regional Summits take the purpose and passion of the ISES and implement this in a regional format. In 2014, the Regional Summits will take place in Mexico City, Aberdeen, New York, Cape Town and Shanghai.

PPP’s current programs and activities include: Papua: Land of Peace – Civil Society Leadership in Conflict Transformation: a civil society strengthening initiative to enable the work of five Papuan civil society organizations in Manokwari, West Papua, Indonesia. Pedaling for Papua is an international bicycle odyssey during which cyclist and campaign leader Jeremy Bally will be telling the story of West Papua through performance art. Puppets-on-the-Go is a crate rental program with age appropriate activities tied to art, social studies, language arts and even math curriculum. The process is made easy as educators are supplied with clear instructions, materials and samples for their student’s creative process. The art-based activities initiate cooperation and discussion for the many learning styles in their classrooms. And the end result is a performance to be proud of. “My students responded really positively and were motivated to create their own show.” The production “Pigs in a Canoe and other Watery Stories” features stories about water, from the mysteries of the deep-sea tube-worms to the transportation of pigs on the Red River in 1817. Fun and thought provoking for all ages, touring communities all year long. WP Puppet Theatre also facilitates Puppet Power, the biennial international conference that brings together artists, educators and therapists to look at the power of puppetry beyond performance.
