Les Puits du Desert was born from a life-changing experience. During a humanitarian raid in northern Niger, our founder, Christel Pernet, was forced to make an emergency landing in the desert. For four days, she lived alongside local nomadic families, sharing their daily life. She discovered what it truly means to live without access to water: children walking sometimes more than 20 kilometers every day to fetch it, schools that were rare and difficult to access, and women exhausted by the burden of survival. This human shock convinced her that urgent action was needed. In 2004, she founded Les Puits du Desert, in partnership with the Nigerien NGO Tidene, to respond to the essential needs expressed by the communities themselves: access to clean water, education, health, and women's empowerment. Since then, our association has been working in the Agadez region with an approach rooted in proximity, listening, and co-construction with local populations. The mission of Les Puits du Desert is to sustainably improve the living conditions of nomadic and rural populations in northern Niger, particularly in the Agadez region. These communities, mostly Tuareg, face some of the harshest living conditions in the world: - No clean water: women and children often walk hours under extreme heat to fetch unsafe water. - Food insecurity: desertification and climate change make traditional livelihoods increasingly fragile. - Limited access to health: villages are often days away from the nearest clinic. - Barriers to education: nomadic children, and especially girls, are rarely able to attend school. - Economic marginalization: women have few opportunities to earn an income or gain autonomy. We believe that water is the first step toward development. It is the foundation for health, education, food security, and economic empowerment. But beyond water, our mission is to accompany communities toward long-term resilience and dignity. Since 2004, Les Puits du Desert has worked in close and continuous partnership with Tidene, a Nigerien NGO founded the same year by leaders from the Agadez region. This partnership, in place since the very beginning, is one of the pillars of our credibility and effectiveness in the field. Tidene brings local legitimacy, field expertise, cultural understanding, and the capacity to mobilize communities even in the most remote areas. Les Puits du Desert ensures fundraising, technical and administrative support, and accountability to international partners and donors. Together, we form a strong binational alliance that combines local knowledge and international solidarity. Every project begins with listening carefully to the communities. Tidene's teams organize meetings with village chiefs, elders, women, and youth to identify priorities. Whether it is a well, a school, or a health center, the decision always comes from the people themselves. During implementation, communities are actively involved: - Villagers contribute to site preparation, transport of materials, and support to technicians. - Women are trained in gardening, food processing, and small equipment maintenance. - Local management committees are created to ensure long-term operation of wells, schools, or gardens. This participatory approach guarantees ownership and sustainability: when people help build an infrastructure, they also take responsibility for protecting it. Beyond infrastructures, we invest in training and empowerment so that projects endure: - Training water committees in maintenance and spare parts management. - Supporting teachers and parent associations to strengthen education. - Equipping health workers with skills and tools to improve healthcare. - Helping women's cooperatives develop business strategies and improve production techniques. Each project thus becomes more than a structure: it is a lever of resilience and autonomy for entire communities. Thanks to Tidene, we ensure that all our projects are adapted to the local context and respect cultural traditions: - Schools include boarding facilities so nomadic children can study. - Wells are strategically placed along pastoral transhumance routes. - Women's income-generating activities are designed to fit daily responsibilities while fostering empowerment. All decisions are taken jointly by Les Puits du Desert and Tidene. Projects are co-written, budgets reviewed together, and monitoring carried out both locally and internationally. This dual governance guarantees transparency for donors and coherence with the realities on the ground. We are convinced that sustainable development cannot be imported from outside; it must emerge from within communities themselves. In twenty years of action: - 345 wells and boreholes built, providing tens of thousands of people with clean water. - 13 schools constructed, offering an educational future to hundreds of children. - Health infrastructures established, improving access to care for isolated populations. -16+ women's cooperatives created, reinforcing women's role in the local economy and society. Our work is made possible thanks to the support of numerous individual donors, companies, foundations, and institutions in France and internationally. We maintain trusted relationships with our partners, based on financial transparency, regular reporting, and rigorous monitoring of impact. These partnerships are essential to transform ideas into lasting achievements. Misr Elkheir Foundation Biography MISR ELKHEIR FOUNDATION-(MEK) is an Egyptian NGO- Established in 20/5/2007; Registration with Ministry of Social solidarity is: 555/2007.The foundation is a developmental non-governmental organization mainly concerned with Human Development. Our Vision: To become a pioneering sustainable development organization to be heeded internationally. Our Mission: Comprehensive Human Development through the implementation of projects in order to diminish the levels of illness, poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and unemployment. The main goal of Misr ElKheir Foundation is human development, and thus seeks to achieve this through the development of six strategic units covering different aspects of Egyptian life. These are Social Solidarity, Life Aspects, Health, Education and Scientific Research; and Integrated Development Sector, which unifies all the efforts of the other sectors to tackle needs of poorest Base of the Pyramid communities. Through these areas, Misr ElKheir Foundation seeks to contribute positively and actively to eliminate unemployment, illiteracy, poverty and disease, and to make Egypt an inclusive society, which can grow and remain sustained on autopilot projects. MEK has an established institutional structure of more than 1000 employees, with the Board of Trustees at the tip of the pyramid, then cascading down to the Executive committee exercising control over the BOT Executive member CEO, who in turn heads all the six sectors plus the execution Unit and the HR and administration unit. The Execution is operational Unit such as containing Finance department, procurement, IT, legal, marketing & PR, fund raising, international cooperation, while HR and administration controls HR responsibilities and internal administrative procedures and services. On the other hand, the Audit, Governance and Business Control Committee controls the BC Unit that separately -away from BOT CEO- presides over Business Continuity, Audit and Quality, M&E and Complaints Functions for transparency and avoidance of conflicts of interests. These functions comply with the International Non-Governmental Organizations. Our Hope Heya Masr for Society Development

Our mission is to restore a sense of dignity and pride in young Egyptian women by building their self-confidence and empowering them mentally and physically to develop themselves. Heya Masr targets disadvantaged young girls and boys aged 6-18 to strengthen their character. We do this by providing a safe and nurturing environment for physical activities, nutritional and healthy lifestyle education, character development activities, sexual harassment, and bullying awareness and self-defense strategies. We believe that to make an impact, and we need to educate both young women and men equally. Heya Masr is empowering a young generation of girls and boys now for a better Egypt tomorrow. Heya Masr uniquely targets girls at an early age since we rely on UN studies (1) that indicate that behavioral changes occur at the early stages of development. This approach helps us equip women with mechanisms to rise above the negative impacts of extreme deprivation, abuse, and other adversities in their most formative years of development. We seek a proactive impact on women during adolescence to become stronger, more confident, and independent, thereby positively influencing future generations in Egypt. OBAT Helpers Inc

OBAT Helpers works for the welfare, support, and rehabilitation of displaced and stateless people by providing programs to alleviate the daily suffering and burdens of thousands of Urdu speaking people (known as "Biharis") who are stranded in makeshift camps in Bangladesh. OBAT Helpers implements projects in education and vocational training, self- empowerment through micro-financing, health care with clinics, drinking water, proper sewerage, and emergency relief projects. The Biharis have been stranded in Bangladesh since it achieved independence from Pakistan in 1971. Referred to as, astranded Pakistanis,a this community was supposed to be repatriated to Pakistan after the two countries separated but most of them could not due to political complications. They are presently citizens of nowhere, unclaimed by either country and marked by the UNHCR as refugees, yet deprived of the rights of refugees. They still live in the camps/slums that were supposed to serve as their temporary shelter forty years ago. This population is scattered across sixty-six camps which house around 300,000 people. Anyone visiting these camps would see a family of 7-10 people sharing a living space of 8x10 ft.; open sewers and overflowing drains; a single toilet or two for one hundred or so people; innocent six or seven year olds who should be in schools, working for a living; high-infant mortality rates due to absence of medical facilities; lack of clean drinking water; terrible or no sanitation facilities and nothing but abject poverty. OBAT Helpers is the only organization in North America which is committed to helping the Biharis to become self-reliant and empowered through proper education, health care and micro financing projects. OBAT started with providing help to one camp in 2004, and now, it is improving the lives of people in more than 30 out of the total 66 camps, after just six years. This is almost half of the total number of camps in Bangladesh.

Our mission is to give orphans, vulnerable and at-risk children a better life, by providing hope for a brighter future and a vision of life beyond their present vulnerable situations. HRHC strives to provide food, housing, education, and health care services; as well as rehabilitation, and clinical and faith-based counseling services to these needy children. HRHC aims to provide opportunities for the children to pursue either educational and/or job training, and other skill enhancements needed to become productive citizens. Additionally, by offering positive role models to guide and mentor these children, HRHC believes the children will overcome their negative pasts, and move on to bright and prosperous futures. We strongly believe that with the proper intervention, these children will thrive, develop to their full potential, and positively influence and contribute to their immediate communities and to the society at large.

Alzheimer Bulgaria is an association of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, as well as their families, caregivers, and professionals. It was registered in December 2003 and since January 2004 has been registered with the Ministry of Justice. We are members of Alzheimer Europe, Eurocarers, the Global Dementia Friends Campaign. We have officially registered 2 branches of the organization in Bulgaria - Gotse Delchev and Pleven and there are volunteers who share their personal experiences in the towns of Varna, Lovech, Plovdiv, Lukovit, Topolovgrad. Our mission is to help dementia patients and their families with all legal means, including the protection of their human rights. Our main goals are: improving the quality of life of patients with dementia and their families; changing the public perception of dementia patients; disseminating information and raising awareness among families and authorities; advocacy for social and health policies specifically targeting dementia patients and their families.

Femme International

Femme International is committed to using education, conversation & distribution to break down the global menstrual taboo. Menstruation affects 51% of the world's population, with every woman experiencing menses during her lifetime. For menstruators in low-income communities, getting your period presents a set of specific challenges - poor access to menstrual products, oppressive taboos, lack of adequate hygiene facilities, and lack of reproductive health education. 83% of girls in Burkina Faso, and 77% in Nigeria (UNICEF) have no place to clean themselves at school, and will therefore leave early. The World Bank has estimated that girls will miss 10-20% of her education because of her body's natural cycle. Femme believes that providing adolescent girls not only with reusable menstrual products, but also comprehensive education, empowers them to feel in control of their bodies, and breaks down the menstrual taboo. When women lack access to sanitary pads, either by financial constraints or lack of availability, they will use alternative methods. In India, 88% of menstruating women use homemade methods. In Tanzania, the most common method is to use rags, or cloth, folded into the underwear - something women have been doing for centuries. However, when the cloth is not washed properly, used when damp, or shared among sisters, it becomes unsafe. Other homemade methods common in Tanzania include foam mattress stuffing, newspaper, leaves, even mud. These methods are not safe or hygienic, and they are uncomfortable, preventing girls from being able to concentrate or participate in school. They also don't help girls feel comfortable during a week when they are already feeling ashamed of their bodies. Unsafe menstrual management is a leading cause of reproductive tract infections (UTIs, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis), which when untreated can cause more serious health concerns. The decision to use and promote reusable products is because sanitary pads are unaffordable for many women. The average cost of a package of 8 pads in Tanzania is approximately $1/day, which is often the same as the daily wage for an unskilled labourer. For a 14-year old girl, she will rarely feel comfortable asking the male breadwinner for this money, and they will rarely be able to provide her with it. A study in Kenya indicated that one in ten girls aged 15 had engaged in transactional sex to purchase pads. In rural Tanzania, or even urban centers, there is no method of garbage disposal beyond burning. Many women report burying their products, but must do so far away from their homes because of the perceived destructive powers of menstrual blood. The environmental impact of disposable menstrual products is staggering, and unsustainable, both financially and environmentally. The Twaweza Project is simple - and it works. Preliminary M&E reports demonstrate significant impact, including improved academic results and attendance, improved self-confidence, reduction of financial stress, and improved health. Adolescent beneficiaries are two times less likely to report symptoms of bacterial vaginosis.

Its core mission is to empower vulnerable populations-including women and girls, Roma, displaced persons, migrants, and marginalized groups-by promoting social justice, economic independence, education, leadership, and civic participation. As a women-led organization with an all-female board and executive team, SCF exemplifies its commitment to gender equality, ensuring that women's voices influence community initiatives and policymaking. The foundation believes that sustainable social progress comes from inclusive leadership, authentic public participation, and collaborative partnerships with public authorities, the private sector, and civil society. Building trust and transparency remains central to its approach, enabling it to develop scalable programs that produce tangible, lasting impact. SCF's operational excellence was demonstrated through its rapid and effective response during crises. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation played a pivotal role in fundraising and managing procurement activities to support Romanian hospitals, strengthening health systems at a critical time. Its comprehensive approach extended beyond medical supplies to include social outreach, aid distribution, and awareness campaigns, helping vulnerable communities withstand the social and economic shocks of the pandemic. In 2022, SCF's dedication to humanitarian response was further exemplified through its leadership during the Ukrainian refugee emergency. Establishing a dedicated operational team, the foundation coordinated logistics, provided psychosocial support, and facilitated integration programs for a rapidly growing Ukrainian community-numbering approximately 8,000 people-within Sibiu County. Their initiatives included UN-funded projects focused on language learning, vocational training, cultural exchange, and mental health, promoting social cohesion and empowering displaced persons to rebuild their lives. This work garnered international recognition when the team was awarded the European Economic and Social Committee Civil Society Prize in 2022. In 2024, recognizing the importance of strategic consolidation and long-term impact, SCF integrated its emergency response team into its broader organizational framework. This integration created one of Romania's largest and most dynamic community foundation teams, capable of addressing a wide spectrum of community needs across social development, civic engagement, and humanitarian aid. As a United Nations Refugee Response Partner, the foundation commits to coordinated, sustainable interventions that foster diversity, inclusion, and social cohesion. Today, SCF actively promotes community engagement through local initiatives, innovative projects, and advocacy efforts that aim to promote behavioral change, enhance educational and economic opportunities, and support local leadership. Its programs are designed to be scalable and replicable, ensuring that best practices can be adopted across different regions and communities.
