Silent Heroes Foundation

Silent Heroes Foundation (SHF) believes in the One Health philosophy, whereby humans and animals are intricately connected to their environment. This is most especially true where we operate, in the developing world. With One Health in mind, SHF is committed to enhance both animal and human well-being in Africa, as well as to aid in the protection and conservation of its wildlife and endangered species. This is achieved through supporting the work of veterinarians & conservationists in Africa, through the implementation of innovative conservation and mitigation of human-wildlife conflict, & through research and education initiatives with a focus at the interface between humans, domestic animals, and wildlife.

GREATER OUTREACH MEDICAL/EDUCATIONAL DESTINATIONS

GO-MED was started informally during the latter half of 2009 by several nurses, surgeons, and anesthetists who have been on previous overseas medical missions with other excellent organizations, such as Operation Rainbow and Health for Humanity. They decided that they wanted to expand their range, however, in several ways. They wanted to: 1. include a variety of surgeries according to the expertise of the surgeons who volunteer for a given mission; 2. include, as patients, adults as well as children; 3. include health education focused on the prevention of illness; 4. include a variety of global destinations, with perceived need being one of the critical criteria for selection.

Neighborhood Forest

Neighborhood Forest is a non-profit, social venture dedicated to giving children their very own tree to plant on Earth Day – for free – every spring. We love trees! We love planting them and watching them grow. We want to give every child this joy. And, in the process, beautify our neighborhoods, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and help instill in the hearts of our little ones a sense of magic, wonder, and love for our planet. Since 2010, Neighborhood Forest has mobilized over 3,000 schools, libraries, and youth groups, engaged over 500,000 volunteers, and given over 197,000 children in all 50 states (plus Canada and Mexico) the opportunity to plant their very own tree. We are growing at a rapid rate and are aiming to reach 1 million children in the next few years. Our dream is to reach every child in North America and eventually the world.

The MindFuel Foundation

For more than 17 years, Science Alberta Foundation (SAF) has created and delivered innovative programs that promote science literacy in Alberta. We stand alone in taking science where it’s needed most — to families, teachers, librarians and local organizations; within homes, classrooms and learning facilities; from the largest cities to the smallest towns in every corner of Canada’s fastest growing province. Our efforts are inspiring minds and changing futures. As science-related issues become more prevalent in our daily lives and the need for skilled knowledge-workers continues to grow, Science Alberta Foundation will have an even more important role to play. Built on a founding vision of scientific learning as a catalyst to continued prosperity in the global marketplace, SAF has emerged as North America’s first and only source of science-related programs and resources for parents, teachers, librarians and local organizations to use in their homes, classrooms and facilities.

FLAP Canada

FLAP is a charitable not-for-profit, founded in 1993 to address the issue of bird collisions with human-built structures. Since its inception, FLAP volunteers have recovered over 59,000 birds from 166 species, all victims of collisions with a handful of buildings in the Greater Toronto Area. It is unsettling to add that 64 of these species are in serious population decline. Our dedication has placed bird collisions with buildings on the wildlife conservation map, and in doing so, has proven this issue to be the leading cause of bird death across North America. As a world-first organization, FLAP has mobilized the NGO, business, educational and government sectors to find progressive ways to protect birds from the hazards of our built environment. FLAP has created models for replicability of both our awareness and rescue initiatives, like those now running strong in New York, Chicago, Montreal and Minneapolis.
