Canadian Mental Health Association/Peel Branch began in 1962 when members set out to persuade the Mississauga Hospital Board to create a psychiatric unit. CMHA/Peel has steadily grown from a handful of staff to more than 75 who serve in 12 programs, including a resource centre, two clubhouses, a drop-in, outreach for adults and youth, case management, court support, and its newest program, CMHA/Peel ACT (Assertive Community Treatment). Celebrating its 45th year serving residents of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, which make up the Region of Peel, CMHA/Peel operates on a RECOVERY philosophy. The CMHA "Framework for Support" defines RECOVERY as "regaining a significant degree of control in one's life and finding a positive sense of self and a meaningful place in the world. The illness loses its central and life-defining position and takes on a more secondary role ...RECOVERY needs to be achieved not once, but over and over again."
Our Vision - All people have the resources they need for mental health and full participation in community life. CMHA-Edmonton Region is a non-profit volunteer agency. This is accomplished through social action, public education, direct service programs, housing and other special agency projects. The agency's operation is governed by the Mental Health Act, the Health Information Act, the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act, the Companies Act, the Protections of Persons in Care Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.

Founded in 1987 and a registered charity since 1990, AWISH is a non profit, community resource organization located on the West Island of Montreal. AWISH is supported by its members, local communities, businesses and West Island Community Shares. We also work cooperatively with national and international arthritis organizations. To help people achieve a better quality of life, we provide the much-needed tools and encouragement through our volunteers who have their own experiences with arthritis, and who are eager to share in one-on-one or group settings. AWISH complements the healthcare system by providing exercise programs, coping skills and techniques courses, support groups and information sessions to arthritis patients, their families and friends and the community at large. As a vital support and information resource organization to the more than 35,000 affected West Islanders, we urge anyone who feels alone, or who is at their wits end with their pain, to contact us.
