BUILDING A BETTER TOMORROW: The future of our community hinges on our ability to support our most vulnerable populations, children and seniors, who ALL have the potential to make contributions to our community and the economy. OUR ROLE: We build stronger communities by focusing on children, their families and on seniors. We invest in preventive social services in 24 communities, from Pemberton to Langley. A CATALYST FOR CHANGE: In tough economic times, when social challenges are on the rise, United Way is ready to work harder and smarter. Working with our partners we fight poverty, protect the vulnerable, and prevent social problems before they happen. No other organization has the same breadth, depth and history of achieving profound differences in the lives of others. United Ways were born during the Great Depression, when people stepped up to help those in need. Along the way we’ve learned that real social change only happens when we focus our resources and work together.

With the support of donors and others, we are bringing to bear strategies that include research, convening, advocacy and investment that not only address short-term need but also create lasting change in our community. And we are focusing on three areas of impact: 1. Growing Up Great, to improve conditions for children and youth to reach their full potential; 2. Belonging to Community, to improve opportunities for vulnerable people, including seniors, immigrants and people with disabilities, to contribute fully to their communities; and 3. Turning Lives Around, to Improve conditions for the chronically homeless, for youth facing addictions, and for people and families dealing with poverty, mental illness and violence.

United Way of Sault Ste Marie & district (UWSSM) - through community engagement identified four priority issues; health, employment, poverty, and youth concerns. Working with the non profit and volunteer sector, UWSSM facilitates solutions to these issues, resulting in community impact. UWSSM continues to fund these community priorities through three focus areas: Healthy people, strong communities; From poverty to possibility; and All that kids can be. These three focus areas affect many individuals around us and their need for support continues to grow. Everyday people that are experiencing tough times benefit the most from our services and we have all had tough times at one time or another, we may have just been more fortunate in our lives not to need these services. United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County mobilizes the caring power of the local community to improve lives in measurable and lasting ways. The organization is led by a diverse group of volunteers from business, labour, government, human services, education and the community. United Way believes that everyone has something to contribute, and provides opportunities for people and businesses to invest in the local community with both financial and human resources. United Way works with its agency partners to balance the urgent needs of today with the desire for a better future for everyone in the region. The Upper Room Mission is a non-profit charitable organization that provides compassionate help to the homeless and working poor through services provided by our Thrift Store, Chapel, Kitchen, Dining Area and Recovery-Life Skills Programs.

Upper Yonge Village Daycare is a not-for-profit child care centre dedicated to serving the day nursery and pre-school needs of our Toronto community for almost 30 years. Centrally located in the Yonge and Eglinton area of Toronto, we provide a safe and secure facility with two playgrounds. Upper Yonge Village Daycare is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of parents and community members. Our dedicated and energetic staff are all Registered Early Childhood Education staff (RECE) or Early Childhood Assistants (ECA). We are very proud of our staff retention rates, which far exceed industry norms. Having long term staff means a stable and stress-free learning environment for your children.
