Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters we believe that.... Every Child in Canada Who Needs a Mentor, Has a Mentor.
Within every child, there is the potential to achieve success in their adult lives. But for some children, the path to success can be difficult. A caring adult who provides positive role modelling can make all the difference. Big Brothers and Sisters of Ajax-Pickering provides children with mentors through a variety of programs including Big Brother and Big Sister one-to-one match, In-School Mentoring for both boys and girls, and/or Couples for Kids. Research studies have shown that children in our programs do better in school, have better peer relationships and are more likely to go on to post secondary education. It takes just one ... one person who cares about a child. Please make a donation to make a difference in the life of a child. Invest in a child today and you will be building a better tomorrow.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their potential. Serving as role models our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, staying in school, respect, confidence to learn new skills, and grow into healthy, positive contributing adults. We believe that by opening a child's eyes to what is, opens their minds to what could be. Each time we introduce a child to a caring mentor we start something special - a life changing relationships built on friendship, trust and empowerment. Guided by a team of qualified caring staff we have been impacting lives in Red Deer and area since 1976.
We provide screened and trained, volunteer adult mentors to young people in need of additional friendship, throughout the Okanagan. Our programs include traditional matches between volunteer "Bigs" and their "Littles" , aged 7 -16, from single parent families. We also offer an In-School Mentoring Program, which requires less time from the volunteer and involves a weekly get-together with a youngster on school premises.
Big Sisters began matching girls with a Big Sister in Edmonton in 1972. Big Brothers started in Edmonton in 1980. The two organizations merged in 1990, and have grown from serving under 100 children in 1990, to serving 2700 children in 2008. Our goal is to serve 5000 children by 2013. Our two "traditional" matching programs have grown to ten programs today, meeting the diverse needs of children in the communities we serve.
