Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International of the Americas is an international organization for business and professional women who provide volunteer service to their communities. About 45,000 Soroptimists in 20 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls. Soroptimist International of the Americas is part of Soroptimist International, which comprises almost 95,000 members in about 120 countries.The name, Soroptimist, means 'best for women,' and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best.Soroptimist members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of service to their communities. Club projects range from renovating domestic violence shelters, to providing mammograms to low-income women, to sponsoring self-esteem workshops for teenage girls. In addition, Soroptimists participate in organization-wide programs that include the Women's Opportunity Awards, Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, the Making a Difference for Women Award and the Violet Richardson Award. All projects seek to make life better for women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

About Us: Our Bridgeport club was founded in 1992, and is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas which was founded in 1921. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. A 501(c)(3) organization, Soroptimist relies on charitable contributions to fund its programs. Local members join with almost 100,000 Soroptimists in more than120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women. Soroptimist International has consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, which oversees U.N. activities promoting human rights. In addition to sponsoring the awards programs, our club has participated in community programs focused on various health and human service issues for women and girls, such as the Center for Women and Families, Mi Casa/My Home, Women and Men’s Health Project, Project Courage, and Local Soup Kitchens. Friends Of Sarnelli House Ua

Raise funds for Sarnelli House Hospice & Orphanage. This public charity was established to ensure low cost funding for the Redemptorist Fathers (A Roman Catholic Order of Priest and Brothers- Denver Province) Mission work. Specifically, in the past they have relied on direct contributions. The founders are friends, relatives and neighbors of Father Michael Shea, a Redemptorist priest who has been doing mission work for over 50 years. This group wants to ensure that his work receives funding in the most cost effective manner. The members and trustees of this group receive no salary or fees of any kind whatsoever for their work. All funds collected will be distributed to support the charitable work of the Redemptorist Fathers, specifically Sarnelli House.

The sole function of the Bolivian Mission is to improve the living conditions of the poor people of Montero Bolivia and the surrounding areas This is done by supporting the foster home for street boys six water projects to bring clean potable water a jail ministry building small homes and giving children skills that will enrich their lives for many years

Central Brazil Mission Inc

Reaching and helping individuals that live along the 1,100 rivers of the Amazon Region of Brazil with a medical boat. They do 10-15 trips each year between February and October Each trip is about 10 days and individuals come from the US to help them on these trips. They treat an average of 400-600 people on each trip. Both medical and dental.

Remember Niger Coalition

Remember Niger Coalition is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works unify people and mobilize resources to expand quality educational opportunities in Niger, West Africa. We accomplish our mission by partnering with local Nigerien organizations and school committees. Working together, we build and furnish schools, provide sponsorships for student tuition assistance, keep girls in school through our Girls' Advancement program, provide teacher training through Teach-the-Teacher, and ensure that students have meals. We also facilitate volunteer mission trips to Niger.
