FAMILY HOPE COMMUNITY CENTRE

To establish a community school with standard facilities to accommodate children from all backgrounds; with an aim of maintaining a special pool of resources to keep all the less privileged children in school throughout the year. It is so painful to see only few children smoothly continuing with their education while a big number who come from poor backgrounds are always on the road going back to look for school fee, which they hardly get from parents who cannot even a afford a decent meal in a day. Our centre's mission is to stop that kind of imbalance by establishing a system that financially cushions children from poor backgrounds and families and keep them in school at all times, providing education, food, clothing and health care, which are essential in every valued life. Bringing the whole world to the concept of global parenthood; we can be in two separate worlds but still stand as one global community with regard to the value for human life, education, good health and shared privileges. Bringing the community together and encouraging a generalized contribution towards raising a generation that sees not the limits of "class" but visualizes and realizes the potentiality of interdependence. Ensuring that there is, besides education, decent food, clothing and access to medical services to as many children and families as possible and especially those who have almost a zero chance of enjoying such essentials.

Diocese of Marsabit

Diocese of Marsabit: The Catholic Diocese of Marsabit was established in November 1964 through the efforts of Bishop Charles Cavallera (Bishop of the Diocese of Marsabit 1964-81). The jurisdiction previously covered the two Counties of Northern Kenya namely: Marsabit and Samburu. In 1981 the Diocese got a new Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Ambrose Ravasi was in charge of the Diocese until 2006. Rt. Rev. Peter Kihara Kariuki the current Bishop was installed as the third Bishop of the Diocese in January 2007. Coverage: The Diocese covers the entire Marsabit County, which is the second largest in Kenya after Turkana and covers an area of 70,961.2 sq. km. Marsabit is classified as 100% Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL). According to the 2019 census, the county has a population of 459,785. It has 17 Parishes served by clergy from different congregations and nationalities. The county is mainly inhabited by pastoralist communities with a mix of indigenous ethnic and sub-ethnic communities who profess Christianity, Islam, and African traditional religions. Caritas Marsabi: Catholic Diocese of Marsabit's development agency - Caritas Marsabit is a committed Faith Based Organization that supports integral human development of the pastoralists' communities in Marsabit County. The function of Caritas Marsabit aligns itself with the objectives of the pastoral department of the diocese, whose main function is evangelization. The organization's mission is to empower the people to know God and live in dignity and harmony. It envisions a people holistically empowered in line with the gospel values. W In her programs, Caritas Marsabit aims to facilitate, network, and empower the target communities through need-based multi-sectoral programs built on positive cultural and modern practices that utilize available local resources and modern technology. In all these, we are guided by core values of Love, Honesty, Stewardship, Accountability, and Community engagement. Target: Our target groups are largely pastoralists and agro-pastoralists who rely on agriculture which is a highly climate-sensitive sector. As such, the goal of promoting adaptation, mitigation, and poverty reduction is core in our program designs. The organization adopts the Kenya National Adaptation Plan (2015-2030) recommendation of mainstreaming climate change adaptation in all sectors. As such the organization undertakes short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures to build communities' resilience against climate change-related shocks. Our Programs: Caritas Marsabit has identified six strategic pillars that guide our work and help us address the diverse needs of the communities we serve. These pillars form the foundation of our programs and initiatives: 1. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): We strive to improve access to clean water, and proper sanitation facilities, and promote hygienic practices. Our WASH programs focus on constructing and rehabilitating water sources, building latrines, and conducting hygiene promotion activities to ensure healthier living conditions for the most vulnerable communities of Marsabit County. Caritas Marsabit Specific objectives under this program include; Potable water supply at the household and institution levels increased Empowered communities managing water resources effectively Improved access to safe sanitation and hygiene 2. Health and Nutrition: Caritas Marsabit is dedicated to improving the health and nutrition status of the people in the county. We provide healthcare services, promote preventive health practices, conduct awareness campaigns, and support nutrition programs to combat malnutrition and enhance overall well-being. The program`s specific objectives include: To reduce morbidity and mortality rates of children and mothers To promote preventive Health practices Promote advocacy on health issues 3. Sustainable Livelihoods: Caritas Marsabit supports the development of sustainable livelihood options for individuals and communities. We provide vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and access to microfinance to empower people to generate income, improve their economic situation, and reduce poverty. The specific objectives under this theme include: To promote diverse income-generating activities To enhance Livestock production and marketing 4. Justice and Peace (JP): We advocate for justice, equality, and peace in Marsabit. Our programs focus on promoting social cohesion, conflict resolution, human rights awareness, and strengthening community-based justice systems. We strive for a just and peaceful society where everyone can live harmoniously. The specific objectives under this program include: To promote communities` engagement in peace-building and conflict transformation processes. Increase public participation in good governance issues at local and national levels 5. Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change, and Natural Resource Management (DCC-NRM): We work towards building resilience and mitigating the impacts of disasters and climate change. Our efforts include disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation strategies, sustainable land and water management, and conservation of natural resources. The specific objectives include: Promote sustainable use of natural resources Increase communities` capacities to manage disaster Reduce communities` suffering during emergencies. 6. Institutional Development and Capacity Strengthening (IDCS): Caritas Marsabit places significant emphasis on Institutional Development and Capacity Strengthening as a pivotal pillar in its strategic plan. This commitment stems from the organization's recognition of deficiencies in organizational policies before 2015, wherein the Human Resources (HR) policy was merely a two-page document utilized across the entire diocese, lacking the depth necessary for effective management. The financial manual was brief, outlining minimal guidelines on procurement, and several essential policies were absent. During the preceding strategic period (2015-2020), Caritas Marsabit underwent substantial institutional growth. A series of self-assessments revealed longstanding institutional gaps, allowing the organization to formulate comprehensive work plans addressing these issues. Notably, the strategic initiative aligned with the Encyclical Deus Caritas Est, which emphasized the importance of professional competence among individuals caring for those in need. In response, Caritas Marsabit developed a robust HR policy, aligning with contemporary standards, and fostering improved recruitment processes, staff establishment, and retention. The implementation of a structured organogram, clear reporting lines, and detailed job descriptions for all positions significantly contributed to attracting and retaining competent staff. The positive shift is evident as Caritas Marsabit now attracts professionals from peer organizations, marking a departure from the high staff turnover experienced in the past. Financial management and operational procedures have undergone periodic improvements, earning approval from partners and auditors due to robust internal control systems. Annual organizational audits and project-specific audits enhance accountability, transparency, and quality management, culminating in organizational efficiency and a diverse resource base. Caritas Marsabit further refined logistics and procurement through a separate policy document. Manuals for fleet management, warehouse operations, anti-fraud, gender, child protection, sexual harassment, and community feedback and complaints handling mechanisms were developed and implemented. The organization's governance structure now includes a fully constituted board meeting bi-annually, providing oversight to different departments. As a member of the CHS Alliance, Caritas Marsabit has achieved a well-structured institutional system. Nevertheless, the organization acknowledges the need for continuous improvement in capacity. Collaborating with partners and donors, Caritas Marsabit has undertaken various capacity-strengthening initiatives. The organization engaged in discussions with Caritas Kenya on institutional capacity strengthening and shared learning with other diocesan Caritas Organizations. One significant proposal involved the assessment against the Caritas Internationalis Management Standards (CIMS) within the dioceses. Caritas Marsabit aims to conduct a self-assessment against CIMS in the new strategic plan, reflecting the organization's commitment to sustained growth and adherence to international standards. Here are three specific objectives for IDCS: Comprehensive Policy Framework: Develop and implement a comprehensive policy framework that addresses organizational deficiencies, ensuring adherence to contemporary standards and best practices. This includes revising and expanding the Human Resources (HR) policy, financial manual, and other essential policies to guide effective management, recruitment processes, and operational procedures. Professional Competence and Staff Retention: Enhance the professional competence of the organization's workforce by implementing a robust HR policy. This involves providing proper training for staff, improving recruitment processes, establishing clear reporting lines through the development of an organogram, and creating detailed job descriptions for all positions. The goal is to attract, retain, and empower competent professionals, reducing staff turnover and fostering a more stable and skilled workforce. Efficient Financial Management and Accountability: Strengthen financial management and accountability through the periodic improvement of operational procedures, and internal control systems, and the development of specific manuals for logistics, procurement, fleet management, and warehouse operations. "No child's life shall be curtailed by the circumstances of his or her birth because each one deserves absolute love and infinite opportunity to grow" Established in 2012, our fundamental purpose is to deliver those without means into this world safely and render them to a loving family securely. To provide and ensure quality healthcare, education, and recreation to all children, is our broader initiative. We have due to the support of donor organizations made progress by leaps and bounds. Our presence in Machar Colony has helped the community in providing them with services that are the basic right of every individual. Following are the projects that we have initiated in Machar Colony: 1. Khel- A learning and rereational centre for children in Machar colony, which solely focus on providing a learning space, a play area and a secure environment for children who work at night in shrimp peeling factories and are found gambling or aimlessly roaming the streets in the day time. 2. Sehat Ghar- a maternal and child health clinic under the name Sehat Ghar and since its inception in 2014 has treated 45,000+ patients for Hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, water-borne diseases, scabies, respiratory disorders and diabetes. Our program is working with expectant mothers and newborn children and is enabling the community through various medical camps in order to make informed decisions regarding health, family planning and child birth. The three room clinic has an ultrasound facility and a running labor room for expectant mothers. 3. Pasban-e-Mauhal- An environmentally friendly initiative focusing on solid waste management and waste disposal. A garbage loader and two sanitary workers have been assigned under this project which go door-to-door and collect waste. 4. Imkaan Ghar- A shelter for abandoned babies. Imkaan Ghar shelters babies that are rescued and are provided healthcare and a safe home until adopted by forever families.

Curtin Child Learning (CLICCS) exists to uplift the lives of peasantry Children in rural of Sembabule District do this through provision of basic Inclusive Education with emphasis of nursery section (Early hood) or commonly known as kindergarten that nurture children to join, mainstream Primary section. This forms a basis for us to fight high levels of illiteracy, low levels of numeracy among rural Children, where over 7/ 10 Pupils cant read and interpret a Primary Two English story. We also endevour to eradicate child labor , Teenage Pregnancy , Gender disparity, and Violence against Children in all forms, provide employment opportunities to youth at risk who required skills to serve our school in various Capacities. Our School also offers the feeding program to nursery pupils and others who come form abject poverty environment/ homes to give a chance to thrive at our school. We also agents of climate change and environmental Protection where over 10 acres of eucalyptus trees have been planted as a school and over 70 by school community members. We also sensitize our School children not burn any plastic material or ploy hen bags but collect them and promote recycling so avert adverse effects on our health by burning materials. Additionally, We offer Positive Youth development training to our Pupils in four thematic areas of;, Competence, Confidence , Connection Character, Compassion with major goal to ensure they able to contribute to the society they live and Uganda at large. This is done co curricular activities, leadership training among others. Wise in English means "wise," dana in Indian pali language means "to give." Wisedana therefore means "to give wisely". While remaining a secular organization, our values and activities are within the Buddhist philosophical perimeter. We encourage the practice of mindful generosity, which according to various Buddhist schools is the first of the virtues to be cultivated in order to overcome ignorance, understood as the main culprit of suffering in the world. Generosity is thus a tool that has an extraordinary transformative power, capable of building effective responses to the most important social problems. Wisedana is an international philanthropic foundation that draws on the values of the Buddhist tradition while expressing itself in a secular form. It caters to philanthropists who wish to be active in building a more equitable, wise and compassionate world by promoting systemic changes in humanitarian, ecological, social, educational, cultural, and fragility care. As Wisedana Foundation, we intend to be the catalysts for systemic change inspired by the values of the Buddhist tradition, leading to the elimination of suffering and major critical issues in the world today. The value framework of Buddhism allows for a full understanding of the complexity of reality: every being is naturally connected to all others in a relationship of infinite reciprocity, and every arrangement of the world is only temporary and constantly changing. In accepting this condition-now increasingly evident in globalized society-we understand that the only way to effectively intervene in the world is precisely through systemic change. The tool we use is generosity (or philanthropy, which is its organized form) as an experience of relationship toward the other, as a powerful gesture of transformation capable of activating the vocation of individuals to participate in the common good and social change.

Fundacion Tiempo de Juego

Tiempo de Juego is a non-profit entity that seeks to foster the adequate use of free time among children and youth in the most vulnerable areas of Colombia. The foundation seeks to distance children from the social ills that surround them and educate them through strategies such as sports and cultural activities. Tiempo de Juego's mission is to spawn social cohesion and development through sports, cultural, recreational, and formative tools whose purpose is the generation of competencies, promotion of values, and the effective use of free time in a responsible and conscientious manner, generating a positive and replicable impact towards a better quality of life for the community and its surroundings. Tiempo de Juego was established in 2006, as a project for the "Communication for Development" program through the "Universidad de la Sabana". After an exhaustive study for more than three years in Cazuca, one of the most marginalized, deprived and violent areas of our country, it was detected that the lack of education and excess of time of the youth, and the fact about 70 percent of the population is classified displaced, was making them more vulnerable to joining different gangs, drug addiction, incurring early pregnancies, as well as being part of the armed outlaw groups that recruit them for very little money. Using soccer as a recreational tool for value formation, accompanied by art workshops, cultural and educational courses, we gathered 400 children between 5 and 18, and the foundation began to inculcate the proper use of leisure time as a positive and useful way to encourage the kids into a brighter and more positive future. Ever since Tiempo de Juego began to operate, the children and young people have changed as has the neighborhood environment. When they celebrate goals or they read a book, this does not seem the most depressing sector of Cundinamarca area, which according to official statistics, over the past 5 years, has had more than 850 murders of young people; this is the area with the highest rate of displacement population second to Choco. A zone where poverty and malnutrition, joining the gangs to participate in the conflict is just a daily experience, where those who are growing only aspire to be part of an armed group that inhabit the area. Tiempo de Juego uses soccer as its main intervention tool to address social problems due to its capacity to convene people and its pedagogical possibilities. The foundation belongs to the football street world network, associated to the FIFA, and applies the FIFA approved rules of street football as the mechanism for the formation of values, formal education as a basis of democracy and the cultural workshops looking to build a fairer society. Also, we work out the values with the parents to achieve a proper family environment. Since 2008, Tiempo de Juego has opened another chapter in Cartagena, Atlantic Cost City, making possible those children and youth of "Las Faldas de la Popa" also to receive these benefits and rights.

SLUM FILM FESTIVAL

Slum Film Festival is the first ever film platform-featuring stories from slums, about slum realities and made by filmmakers from the slums in Africa - and beyond. It is a celebration of the creativity of filmmakers living and working in slums. It is also an opportunity to show a range of films within slum communities who have limited or no access to cinema. The first pilot edition of the festival was celebrated with success in August 2011. This program has now been extended and expanded in subsequent 4 editions between 2012 and 2014. The festival has reached out for submissions from across Africa and indeed the world. It has gathered audiences from thousands of slum dwellers and urban culture enthusiasts. There are numerous international film festivals around the world, but the Slum Film Festival is exceptional in its mission to be celebrated within slums, and it is dedication to sharing slum stories. More than just a festival, it is aiming to become an international film platform for young independent voices and upcoming and established filmmakers from across the universe. 2 The Organisation The Slum Film Festival is an independent organization, whose goal is to develop a network of partnerships with media production groups, organize film awards, facilitate and organise film screenings and conduct other film and arts related events across Africa's informal settlements, promoting and sharing slum stories from across the world, and becoming a key network for the distribution of films made by and about slum communities. Having run as a project of 2 media organisations [Slum TV and Hotsun Foundation] for 3 years, Slum Film Festival is now registered as an independent Community Based Organisation. 3 Our Objectives and Aims The Slum Film Festival does not aim to legitimise the existence of informal human settlements, but to raise public attention to pertinent issues here, while promoting and celebrating the creativity of the people who live in these communities. The aims of the Slum Film Festival are: To offer a platform for films from slum communities to reach broader audiences, and facilitate disenfranchised filmmakers in joining the international film circuit. To promote dialogue about life in slums that goes beyond stereotyping, using stories from slum communities to promote deeper perceptions about life in the slums. The Slum Film Festival demonstrates that slums are also a home for the very talented, creative and culturally active artists. For the festival event to become a magnet for media attention, while changing media discourses about slum realities. This media presence can also allow mainstream media to acknowledge the presence of smaller slum-based media content producers, and promote new partnerships. To support the expansion of the festival into new slum locations, eventually becoming a networked festival for celebrating the diversity of Pan-African and global creativity.

Title: Free School Education for the Poorest Children in Village Areas: A Mission of Hope and Change Introduction In many villages across Pakistan, countless children wake up every morning to face a life burdened by poverty, hunger, and hopelessness. These children, despite having dreams and potential, are often denied the basic right to education. Education, which should be the foundation of their future, becomes an unreachable goal due to financial constraints, lack of resources, and the absence of support systems. Recognizing this critical need, we have launched a revolutionary initiative: a Free School System for the Poorest Children in Village Areas. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to provide completely free education-from basic needs to academic growth-for children who otherwise would never get the chance to step inside a classroom. This includes not just books and uniforms, but also food, emotional support, and life skills. We believe that no child should be left behind because of poverty. Chapter 1: The Harsh Reality in Rural Pakistan In rural areas of Pakistan, families often survive on daily wages, if at all. Children are either forced to work in fields, beg on streets, or stay at home caring for siblings while their parents work. For many of these families, education is considered a luxury they cannot afford. Schools may be too far, lack basic infrastructure, or demand fees and supplies the parents simply can't manage. In some villages, there are no schools at all. In others, the schools that exist may be under-resourced, with untrained teachers and crumbling buildings. Many students drop out due to financial pressure or because the family doesn't see immediate benefits from education. The result? A continuous cycle of poverty that passes from generation to generation. Chapter 2: The Vision of Free Education Our vision is to break this cycle by offering 100% free schooling to the most disadvantaged children. We don't just open classrooms; we open doors to a new life. Our schools are places where children can learn, grow, and discover their purpose. Every student enrolled receives: Free Admission: No child is turned away due to inability to pay. Free Books and Stationery: Ensuring every child has the tools they need to succeed. Free School Bags and Uniforms: Creating a sense of equality and dignity. Free Daily Meals: Providing nutrition so that hunger never stands in the way of learning. Free Primary and Secondary Education: Building a strong academic foundation. But our work doesn't end there. We plan to accompany our students through every stage of growth. Chapter 3: Moving Beyond School - Vocational Training Once students complete their secondary education, they are enrolled in vocational training programs tailored to their interests and the needs of the job market. Our goal is to prepare them for real-world opportunities that can support their families and uplift their communities. Training programs include: Tailoring and Stitching Computer and IT Skills Spoken English Beauty and Wellness Training for Girls Social Media and Digital Marketing Entrepreneurship and Career Counseling We provide these trainings free of cost, often with stipends and materials included, so our students can focus on learning. Many graduates go on to find jobs, start small businesses, or even return to help teach the next generation. Chapter 4: The Dream of a College Our long-term goal is to establish a Free College where deserving students can pursue higher education without worrying about finances. By doing this, we aim to create future doctors, teachers, engineers, social workers, and leaders who will bring change not just in their families, but in society at large. We envision our students becoming the voice of progress in their villages. Running a completely free school system is not easy. Our challenges include: Financial Struggles: We rely entirely on donations. Without consistent support, expansion becomes difficult. Lack of Infrastructure: Many of our schools are in rented or semi-constructed buildings. Shortage of Teachers and Staff: Volunteers help, but we need trained, full-time educators. Transportation Issues: Many children walk long distances to school. Despite these obstacles, our passion never fades. Every challenge only deepens our faith and strengthens our resolve. We dream of a Pakistan where no child is deprived of education. Where schools are full, not empty. Where every village has a safe space for learning.
