To provide dynamic leadership for implementing what we see as universal values founded on fundamental Islamic values by contributing to the alleviation of poverty and securing better socio-economic life for the disadvantaged groups through empowering them to depend on themselves and participate in the decisions concerning their own problems. These values are echoed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other United Nations human rights instruments. The freedoms and responsibilities inherent in them lead directly to tolerance, pluralism, gender equality, public dialogue and non-violence to settle disputes, respect for all people regardless of differing characteristics – all part of what we call “Canadian values”.

The CPFQ Child Sponsorship Program is designed to build bridges between the Canadian community and Palestinian children living under occupation or in refugee camps. Children enrolled in our program live under conditions of extreme poverty and unemployment. Many of them live in densely populated refugee camps. A suitable infrastructure is absent, seriously threatening the physical and mental health of residents. Many children suffer from serious health problems and disabilities. Due to financial hardship, many have to leave school at a very young age to help support their families. The severe restrictions on employment and movement make the future of these children very bleak. In addition to providing much needed financial assistance, the program helps maintain stable and rewarding relationships between each child and their sponsor. This simple message of hope can offset some of the effects of the chaotic and insecure conditions in which they live.

The Calgary Humane Society is known throughout the country for the outstanding and innovative programs and services we have provided to the animals and the community for over 80 years. At the Calgary Humane Society we help close to 10,000 animals each year. These animals have become homeless, unwanted, abused or neglected, and depend on the Calgary Humane Society for shelter, veterinary care, placement and protection.

Bissell Centre takes a holistic approach to addressing the root issues surrounding poverty and homelessness. Our programs and services are hinged on the principle that building respectful, trusting relationships helps deal with the core issues of a person in poverty. Bissell engages with our community members to learn who they are, what their unique barriers are and provide the resources necessary to emerge out of poverty and reconnect with their hope. Programs work with one another to address the many daily and long-term issues such as hunger, education, employment, safety, housing and mental health. The liver is a resilient, maintenance-free organ that's easy to ignore - until something goes wrong. Because of its wide-ranging responsibilities, the liver often comes under attack by viruses, toxic substances (including alcohol), contaminants and disease. Even when it is under siege however, the liver is very slow to complain. Often, people with liver problems will be completely unaware because they may have few, if any, symptoms. The liver is such a stalwart organ that it will continue working even when two thirds of it has been damaged by scarring (cirrhosis). While there have been major advances in treating liver diseases, there are no cures. That's why it's important to take steps to prevent liver disease, such as making healthy lifestyle choices and getting immunized against viruses that can cause liver disease.

The Saskatoon SPCA has been providing a safe shelter and finding happy homes for companion animals in Saskatoon and surrounding area since 1968. As a registered charitable organization, the Saskatoon SPCA relies on the generosity of individual and corporate donors to raise necessary funds to provide shelter, care, nutrition and love to an average of 5,500 abandoned, lost, homeless and orphaned animals annually.

The Canadian Cancer Society funds research on all types of cancer, offers comprehensive and credible information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment, and provides support for people living with cancer, family members and friends.
