Pregnant and Parenting Teens works with young families in the Grande Prairie, Alberta area to deal with issues related to a teen pregnancy. Science for Peace (SfP)

The day-to-day activities of Science for Peace occur through members' participation in Working Groups. These grassroots activities range from research, compiling reports, and generating educational materials to interacting with communities, governmental agencies, and elected officials. Furthermore, SfP is engaged in a number of new and continuing projects: the 'Global Issues Project' studies current threats to global stability arising from the rapid consumption of key resources and considers strategies for managing the anticipated shortages; and 'Freedom for Research' project studies the influence of businesses, governments and the military on the mission and conduct of the University. Science for Peace also holds regular forums and workshops on a variety of topics for public education and debate.

LAND CONSERVANCY FOR KFLA

The Conservancy celebrated its tenth birthday in June 2014. It currently owns five properties totaling 122 hectares and holds an easement on a 71 hectare property. It monitors a 31 hectare property for the Ontario Heritage Trust. It plans to acquire more properties following its acquisition policy and strategic plan. Over 125 members support the work of the Land Conservancy with many volunteers doing stewardship work, monitoring properties, and evaluating potential acquisitions. An 11-member Board manages the organization. We are very proud of all that we are accomplishing as a non-profit, entirely volunteer land trust dedicated to “keeping nature near … always”. ASHA FOR EDUCATION CANADA

Asha for Education Canada (AfEC) is a secular, apolitical, non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to socio-economic change by supporting education of under-privileged children in India. AfEC is run entirely by volunteers so that 100% of donations and funds raised go towards the education and development projects we support in India. AfEC has active volunteers in most major cities of Canada, including Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Kingston. AfEC is the canadian chapter of the parent organization, Asha for Education, founded in California, USA in 1991, now spanning more than 60 chapters worldwide.

FRIENDS FOR ZAMBIA SOCIETY

We are raising money now to build a school in Zambia. It is called the Twitti School. The school is currently in the principal's home, with 200 children attending school in shifts, from preschool to grade 7. We completed construction of the first building which will have 4 classrooms in May 2009 and are constructin the second building to be completed in the spring of 2010. In the country of D.R. Congo, where the average income is under $1.00 per day, a home was built to shelter orphaned children. Hope for Orphans – Congo is a Canadian registered charity that was established to provide food, clothes, school and first aid supplies, and the basic amenities of life for the children and adult caregivers living in the orphanage, Maison D”espoir pour Enfants de Kikamata (Childrens’ Centre for Hope) - Fondly referred to “Karibu” which in Swahili means “Welcome”.

Physical Literacy for Life

The 60 Minute Kids Club is an innovative and interactive program that motivates kids to get active and healthy, and learn how to create healthy habits. Children aged 5-12 years old are able to join the club through their school and participate in three 60 day challenges during a school year. Our online tracking platform provides the ability for the children to track their own healthy behaviours and accumulate points. They learn and practice the 5-2-1-0 healthy living messaging which stands for; 5 or more fruits and vegetables each day, spending 2 hours or less watching TV and playing video games, 1 hour/60 minutes of activity a day, and having 0 sugary foods and drinks. We challenge and engage the children to read, practice positive self-messaging, sleep 8 or more hours per night, and drink 8 glasses of water every day! The unique website platform is a resource that empowers and inspires children, parents, and the community to help get our children get “Fit for the Future”!

The Centre for Security Governance (CSG) is a non-profit, non-partisan think tank dedicated to the study of security transitions in fragile, failed, and conflict-affected states. A registered charity founded in 2013 and based in Kitchener, Canada, the CSG maintains a global network of research fellows from a variety of backgrounds, including practitioners, research analysts and academics, and partner organizations from the public and private sector. The CSG seeks to enhance the effectiveness of donor assistance and support to security sector and justice reform, as a lynchpin to peacebuilding and statebuilding projects in conflict-affected states. The Centre pursues a vigorous publications program and public outreach effort, including papers and briefs, blog posts, eSeminars, and a research/information depository called the SSR Resource Centre, all of which are freely accessible online.
