Museum of Living Memory

The “Musée de la mémoire vivante” is a modern institution with a participating concept. Permanent and temporary exhibitions are displayed. They are set up with the visitors’ contributions through testimonies and artifacts rather than being conceived and perceived as an end in itself. The exhibitions are meant to incite exchanges, discussions and testimonies, always with the purpose of putting the people and their experiences in the spotlight. At the museum, two studios are available to whoever desires to record his testimony or life experience. Those testimonies are kept for the same reason than objects are in a conventional museum. The different themes approached are in this way not forgotten, Those life experiences are available to anyone who desires to listen to them for learning, social reasons or leasure. It is a true democratization of life stories and experiences.

DOUGLAS COLDWELL LAYTON FOUNDATION

If you were asked to name two great leaders of Canadian Socialism, it is likely that Tommy Douglas and M.J. Coldwell would come to mind. Their life-long contributions to social democracy in Canada and around the globe are well celebrated. One dream they shared was to create a Canadian equivalent to Britain's Fabian Society, an independent left-wing group unobligated to any other organization or political party. In 1971 this dream became a reality with the establishment of the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation with Tommy Douglas as it's founding President. In the words of Tommy Douglas, the Foundation would be "a gadfly to provoke discussion…to keep the movements on the left-whether the co-operative movement, the trade union movement or the political movement- from getting in a rut."

QUINTE SYMPHONY

Since Quinte Symphony’s founding in 1960 by Music Director Stephen Choma as the Eastern Ontario Concert Orchestra, we have presented soloists performing orchestral music, including many Canadian works. At the time of the orchestra’s formation, there were many highly trained, local amateur musicians who were passionate about music. This new orchestra also provided an opportunity for students to perform alongside more experienced musicians. Notable names in musical circles have led Quinte Symphony including Kerry Stratton and Clifford Crawley. Gordon Craig became Music Director in 1990 and transformed Quinte Symphony into a small symphony orchestra capable of playing from the standard symphonic repertoire. Quinte Symphony’s commitment to encouraging musical development has seen the addition of student awards programmes and ensemble performances in schools and at local community events. We self-present a 4 concert MasterWorks series and frequently a Quinte Symphony Pops concert.
