Corners Outreach

Corners began with volunteers at Berkeley Lake Elementary school in 2010 working with kids. After serving the school for a short time, we realized there was a massive education problem in Georgia. This issue impacts us today & also in the future. Every high school dropout costs Georgia taxpayers approximately $292,000. In a recent study, students who do not read proficiently by 3rd grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. Poverty* compounds the problem: Students who have lived in poverty are three times more likely to drop out or fail to graduate on time than their more affluent peers. To impact the value of education and be a catalyst for increased graduation, we partnered with elementary schools in our community to begin Corners Academy. We are partnered with Berkeley Lake, Beaver Ridge, Hightower, Norcross and Kingsley Elementary. Corners Academy has been a huge success, with: 21% increase in reading 49% increase in math 54% increase in writing
