About the Marsha P. Johnson Institute The Marsha P. Johnson Institute protects and defends the human rights of black transgender people. They do this by organizing, advocating, creating an intentional community to heal, developing transformative leadership, and promoting collective power. Its founding was rooted in developing a response to the intersectionality of the murder of black trans women and women of color –– and the social, economic, racial, gender and reproductive discrimination such victims face.
