Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors or current students continuing their education. Applications are accepted on our events page beginning in April through early June. Village Health Works delivers quality, compassionate health care in rural Burundi while addressing the root causes of poverty and disease. Our mission is grounded in dignity and driven by the belief that lasting health comes from more than medicine. Education is central to this vision. We support a thriving primary school and operate Kigutu International Academy, a world-class boarding secondary school that prepares talented young people to lead change in Burundi and beyond. Alongside health and education, we strengthen food security, create livelihoods, and support the arts. These investments build healthier communities and nurture peace in a country still recovering from civil war. With over 90 percent of our staff from Burundi, Village Health Works is powered by local leadership. Our doctors, teachers, and community partners are caring for patients today while training the next generation to build a stronger future. Village Health Works is not only a health and education system, it is a movement of resilience and hope that shows what is possible when compassion and community come together.
